Rewatching the final sequence

Scot, you may want to go back and look at the end zone pass to CMC or Funchess.  On one of them, i can't remember which one now, the commentators pointed out Olsen had thought he was open on a drag/crossing route, but on the replay they showed of Olsen, it looked like a receiver came wide open on the right side of the field running an out route, which would have been a first down.  Maybe there was someone zoned underneath, but I doubt it, bc the coverage looked like man.

I don't put it on Cam though, bc it looked like who to pass it to was decided prior to the snap on both plays, and again, we had to dig ourselves out of a hole qe never should've been, thanks to Rivera and his lackadaisical approach to preparation.

Bottom line, I'm tired of this poo.  Rivera has to go.  Cam deserves a staff that won't hamstring his dynamic abilities in order to play conservative, pussified football.

Also, Eric Washington has to go.

That was Wright.  Mentioned it above.  Definitely could have been a first down, potentially a score.

A lot of people are talking about Eric Washington.  I think he's still learning, but we'll see.

One other thought that crossed my mind regarding that third down play...

What has Norv Turner been emphasizing with Cam Newton all offseason?

Quick decisions.

Now, that's not a bad thing. Heck, in most situations, it's to your benefit. And given that I believe the choice was made before the ball was even snapped to go back to the same spot where they'd nearly scored on the previous play, it was pretty much already set in motion.

In this case, it would have been better to hesitate and scan the other options. But here we are.

Unfortunately, in football sometimes even good things have pitfalls that can come back to bite you on the ass.

That may well be what happened here.

Yeah I mean, on 3rd down it was obvious the safety was playing man on Olsen. That’s a layup 9 times out of 10. Also the LB was on CMC I believe? Literally the worst choice was heaving it to Funchess.

Just piss poor all around. Two down territory and you must get five yards, and those two plays are what you come up with. Granted Wright was held, why even leave no margin for error? Get the first down and move on.

If anyone finds the all 22 film of those final three plays please post it up. I'd love to see it.

As for Eric Washington, I was thrilled after Week One. Since then, we haven't held a single team under 20 and we've given up 30+ twice - including the first 30+ point performance from the Giants in something like three years. I'm at near fill blown panic mode with Washington and his defense right now. I honestly think there should be some real thought put into Rivera taking over the defense and letting Washington go back to focusing on the DL.

Our 2 most reliable options to get 5 yards on the last 2 downs are cmc and olsen and cam chose to go elsewhere Dumb

Rodgers and Brees have gone out like that. Against us.

Rodgers in the game where he was famously caught on camera throwing a tablet. And I think you'd probably call anybody who didn't list Rodgers as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league an absolute moron.

It happens, even to the best of them.
