When did the shoulder get so bad?

Cam was making all of throws through the Seattle game and then fell off a cliff and became an inaccurate version of Alex Smith the past 4 games.  If this is a lingering injury can someone point to a play or moment where something happened that now makes him unable to throw more than a check down?  I'm just wondering how and when he completely went to hell.

I mean, ish just happens sometimes.  It might not have been one play, just a culmination.  When Peyton Manning started to suck for example, it was one of those things that just happened.  Sometimes the human body doesn't really give any signs.

But the signs were there.  Newton hadn't pushed the ball downfield all season.  Even with the scheme changing, that was very unlike him.

IMO the Eagles game was the 1st one where I really started to notice how bad his arm was getting though.  People only remember the 4th quarter of that game, but Newton's arm looked damn near shot the other 3 Qs especially with the wind.

Not sure that its a one game or one hit thing, maybe more of a constant grinding down as the season has gone on.  Hopefully its somthing that can be treated quickly after the season (since Ron refuses the idea of sitting him now) and he can be 100% next season.

It’s been bad all year. You’ll notice he has basically thrown zero deep balls all year. Tried a couple the first couple games then took them out of them playbook. People have been talking about how his arm strength has been bad since week 3 only to get called haters and racists.

Cam took a big hit on shoulder during Steelers game but still look pretty good until last 2 weeks.

Only team and medical personnel really know...

Hasn't been the big time deep thrower he used to be since the end of 2016.

Hopefully it can be addressed.

I still believe in Cam but he needs to sit these last 2 games

As others have said, over the long-term, he hasn't been the same since 2016.  But, this year, to me the turning point was the Watt hit in Pittsburgh.  He's been different ever since.  Also, he stretched for a first down against Tampa by reaching for the first down with his right arm and he got up wincing...  to me he appeared to drop another level after that as well.

I think he was dealing with an overuse, repetitive-use injury...  but the hit in Pittsburgh turned it from chronic and manageable to acute.

Yeah it hasn't been right for awhile and (despite some not believing for some reason), has been whispered about by Gantt and Voth all year long on Twitter.

Think it was during the Philly game, play where the OL collapsed into him and the ball sailed for an INT. I remember fighting in the game day thread with somebody who was wanting to say nothing was wrong. Even last year, Cam never really threw long balls...or at least well. Cam needs surgery, needs to heal, and we need to draft a QB to groom to protect ourselves.

    • Predictions from the Observer writers  i am sad   I wish the Panthers had one, just one, game changing hero on their roster …one player that isnt ok with losing …there aren't any Steves,, Lukes,  Cams, Thomas’ on this roster    When  a team has a roster and there isn't one jersey that sells, there arent any heroes if there are, today is a good day to show up   From the Oberser  Fowler: Packers 30, Panthers 20. Carolina will hang around for a while for this one, but the Packers — a legitimate Super Bowl threat — have just too much firepower. Kaye: Packers 31, Panthers 20. Green Bay feels like one of the true Super Bowl contenders in the NFC. The Packers’ offense is dynamic and the defense continues to improve. With a banged up O-line and an unpredictable defense, I’m not sure it matters who is at QB for the Panthers on Sunday. The Packers should win at home in convincing fashion. Zietlow: Packers 35, Panthers 28. I predicted last week that the Bills would win in lopsided fashion. They were coming off a two-game losing streak followed by a bye. The Panthers, conversely, were due for a regression after three great weeks. This week, after refocusing, I think the Panthers will put up a strong performance. I also think Rico Dowdle will get the majority of the carries and that the defense will play much better against the run. The Packers will still win, but the Panthers will leave Lambeau with their heads held high.
