2 weeks to evaluate defensive talent

I worry that RR will be in "job security" mode and not use this opportunity wisely.  The defense is going to be overhauled, regardless of who is here to coach the team or serve as GM.  RR relies so heavily on vets, we do not know much about our youth in some cases.  What do we have (assuming there is the expected turnover) entering 2019?  Here are some players I want to see play over the next 2 weeks--:

  • CB Corn Elder:  Can he play the nickel?  I know he has had limited action and was burned, but we need a larger sample size.
  • DE Marquis Haynes: Can he pressure the passer in the NFL?  Bench Horton (I think he is gone after 2018) , play Haynes more.
  • LB Jermaine Carter: He should get a chance to play OLB with Shaq on the shelf.  I think there is some potential
  • LB Andre Smith:  I would like to see if he can play Davis's spot or that he can replace Mayo as Luke's backup
  • S Rashaan Gaulden:  Perhaps the biggest question mark we have on D.  If he can play FS and Reid re-signs and moves to SS, we would be better.

Most of those are Hurney draft picks that haven't amounted to anything.

I know--but we need to see them now that they have a season (almost) under their belts.  Gaulden was a project when drafted, and most DEs (like Rucker, Johnson, Hardy) do not do much until year 2 or 3-so we need to see how they are developing in game situations.  I am pretty interested in the LB situation with Thompson's contract situation looming.  Is there a future starter on that list?  We do not know yet, but we need to know what we have, and Ron's refusal to play or even develop rookies is problematic.

All of them suck.

Activate REGGIE BONNAFON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is easy to say, "All suck" without regarding that these players were late draft picks and are developmental.  How have they developed?  You nor I know.

I would like to see RB---this focuses on the D.

It’s all scheming to the players rather than forcing a scheme the players don’t fit into.

case in point is the Saints game. This same defense has been horrible and then once Ron had a couple games to get the feel they went lights out.

most NFL players are the “right” players but NFL coaches are either schemers that can’t scheme their players and have to get pieces that fit or they are the good ones that can scheme their players.

Ron is a great DC. He will ride off like Wade Phillips to another team and they will be great on defense

RR knows the NFC South and we have been losers in the division for the past few years--your point could mean that he can't scheme as a head coach but he can as a DC---heck, he had the #1 Defense in the NFL for a few years in San Diego and was still being overlooked in head coach searches--I wonder if good GMs saw what it has taken us 8 seasons to figure out?

Watch all of them be inactive Sunday

Sorry to break it to y'all but all those players listed are bums! Bums I tell you , busts

Maybe, but considering the fact that they were drafted as developmental, you are guessing.  You would have said the same thing about rookie Charles Johnson,  Josh Norman,  Ryan Kalil, Brad Hoover, etc.

It takes a few years, which is why we need to see what we have.  This ain't  Madden.  Besides, Jim Harbaugh will be able to get more out of these players than RR--right?
