Yeah it's pretty much Haskins and Lock at this point in R1.  Someone will reach for Grier and maybe Kyler Murray.  The rest are 3rd rounders and beyond.

I think this will happen---I am predicting the team will be Washington.

Andrew Luck passed on being the first overall pick one year ( to us ) to be the first overall pick next year. It happens.

As you know, there are examples (Think Ohio State) when that did not happen.  Why pass on being the first pick?  However, I think Herbert is getting advice about longevity--not draft positioning.

Any good QB is going to earn $25m+ so a year to work on fundamentals and intelligence is smart.   Yes, injury is always a concern.

THE FIRST 10 PICKS WILL FEATURE 7-8 DEFENSIVE LINEMEN.

I just don't think this Herbert kid is that good. This is his third year, and his completion % went from 63.5 to 67.5 and down to 59.6%. His junior year has been his lowest passer rating year.

He has a shoulder injury...completion % suffered....many say.

Will be

1. Haskins

2a. Lock

2b. Grier

Neither Lock or Grier are remotely close to being worth our 1st and will not be available for our 2nd.

And really no one else after is worth our 2nd.

The 2020 draft will be stacked at QBs.  May have to wait until then now

Jesus, someone is going to take Grier and set back their franchise years.  He sucks in the worst way.

Dont really watch that much Pac12 football.

But sat down and watched their game vs Stanford early this.  Kid Definitely has the tools.  Athletic and has the arm.  Only issue with him he's played out of that shotgun forever, and will have to transition to a pro style.  But guys have done it before, see Cam

Grier isnt Baaaaad.  Good several year project but I wouldnt touch him in the first or even 2nd.   But he'll go late 1st early just due to this terrible class.  He reminds me of a better version of Andy Dalton.

QB to watch though.

The kid from Duke, IMO will be the 2nd QB taken behind Haskins.  Didnt have that him on that list yet.

Daniel Jones has a chance to be good.  Really underrated athlete.  Grier sucks.

He is no where near Andy Dalton.  He is short with really suspect arm strength and seems very immature.  Just will bomb miserably IMO.  He was the definition of average at Florida and just sucks bad.

Right now in my mock

I have Haskins to Jax, Daniel Jones going to Giants, and Grier going to the Bucs in the 2nd (dont see them moving forward with Winston and cutting him) and resign Fitzpatric to groom him

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
