Why would Gettleman give him that contract a year ago and then wants to rid him now? Feels terrible for Giants fans. Hurney is so much better than Dave.

Not including the 2017 season since that was Gettleman + Hurney.

Gettleman:
40W 23L 1T (.625)
x1 NFC Championship
x3 NFC South titles
x4 playoff appearances
x4 seasons (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016)

Hurney:
93W 99L (.484)
x1 NFC Championship
x2 NFC South titles
x3 playoff appearances
x12 seasons as Panthers' GM (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2018)

If we look include Hurney's time as Director of Player Operations in 1998, then the record is 97W 111L (.466). Can we please stop this ridiculous narrative that he is/was a better GM?

Pretty sure you're dealing with one of our repeat nimrods returning from his latest ban.

Wasn't it the Giants owner that wanted to keep OBJ and was vocal about it? Guy gets his payday and then gets hurt, has an embarrassing video come out and what ever else I haven't cared to follow. One of the kind of questions the Giants have to be asking is a locker room with OBJ the place they want to bring a possible high pick at QB? Hell if I know but they need a line and a QB so why not look at the possibilities and see what you could get for a valuable resource. It's like AB, the talent is there but so is the risk and cost.

Cant put the last two seasons on Hurney. Dave left him with old players on the defensive side and signed an average LT to the jackpot based off his rookie season. Hurney will rebuild this defense.

With that logic, Hurneys first two seasons dont count either, which means no NFC Championship game for him and STILL a losing record (75-85-1). That is a horse poo cop out for folks that know they're wrong and cant argue otherwise, and it only HURTS your argument further even when applied. Hurney left Gettleman with zero cap space for 3 seasons and he still made chicken salad without raisins out of chicken poo with raisins

Dave’s SB team consisted of mainly Hurney’s draft pick. What did Dave give Hurney other than CMC and KK? Shaq, Butler, KB, Funch

What did Hurney's team consist of when he went to the SB? Mainly Seifert's draft picks?

Dont forget that Hurney has cap space despite Kalil's trash contract when Gettleman had to work with having no cap space due to the deals to DWill, JStew, and others that Hurney handed out.

    • I think you mean relevant but they have been fine, the problem is the lack of in game adjustments.  He has also been just decent at recruiting.  Duke having tons of success hurts and just fine isn’t good enough at UNC.
    • I don't see it as drafting a premium player to sit and wait if Walker gets hurt. We need a legitimate swing T. Unless you have a Sewell or Slater type tackle that is pretty much a sure thing, these guys can need some time to develop year 1 just like a QB ideally should. They all haven't played the elite 5 star talent on the edge. If we think another franchise tackle has dropped to us at 19, you have to pull the trigger. The position is just too damn hard to find. If it's just a "we need a tackle and this guy has a T on the board", yeah, move on, take one in the later rounds. But if that guy is there, let him back up and learn a year, then slide him into LT on year 2 of his rookie deal.  I don't see us being able to offer Walker a multi year contract after a prove it year, pay Moton his final almost fully guaranteed year, Hunt, Lewis a center and do a 50-60m extension for Bryce. The 3 most important positions on the field are QB, blindside tackle (usually LT), and edge rusher. Those are the premium positions that cost the most and are hardest to come by. If a starting caliber talent is there at 19 you have to pull the trigger.  I understand the need for a DT and S. I've been on the C and FS train for years. If we weren't staring at a potential Bryce extension, it'd make the decision a lot easier I think. It's just with all these huge contracts I don't see how we can hedge our bets on being able or even wanting to re-sign Walker, especially if he has a bad year. Icky and BC's injuries really hurt our long term plans.  If no blue chip talent at those 3 key positions are available at 19, by all means pass and draft another position. But I think it's pretty safe to say we don't have a guaranteed lock at any of them right now beyond Phillips, and they have to be somewhat of a priority.
    • Not completely accurate. I'm sure Roy is lobbying for him and Larry Brown has spoke put in support too. But Hansbrough has made comments pretty critical and hinting at a need for change. Joel Berry has gone a step further and said the standard has not been met. Scott Williams who was a teammate of Hubert's at Carolina has gone all the way and said it's time for a change at head coach.
