FA Target: Allen Bailey

30 yo coming off a productive year as a pass rusher for the Chiefs, would be a 34 DE with the ability to play 3 tech or on the edge in 43 looks.  Without much wiggle room in the cap currently it's hard to see the Panthers winning the competition for him but he certainly would fill a glaring need with the hybrid defense shift.

EDIT:  Visit finally occurred 4/8:

Everyone knows D-Line needs help, but man it would be nice to not rely on putting stop gaps in place and actually get younger.  Fingers crossed we come away with multiple promising DE's here in a month in Nashville.

Youth costs serious $$$ at those positions. Sign bandaids and draft the youth.

Would be a GREAT move!  But, he seems like the perfect Patriots-kind-of-guy signing at this point in his career.

I hope we get him though.

Yep, that's what I was implying.  Just was saying I'm ready for the stop gap trend along the D-line to end, or in other words, draft and develop some youth, so we aren't bargain shopping at those positions any longer.  Believe me, I don't want to splurge in FA for edge guys.

Have only taken 3 DE's in the last 6 years, that trend has gotta go!

I don't know how close you've been paying attention in those drafts, but it's not that the Panthers have ignored the need. I don't know why you, and others, make such bogus claims. There hasn't been much good talent available where we been picking...but yes, our team likes to ignore bringing talent.

You made up the bogus claim yourself.  I never said anywhere "the Panthers love ignoring talent" or "we've passed on so many awesome edge rushers when our picks have come around" or "the Panthers have blatantly been negligent when it comes to the D-Line" .  No need to let other folks on the board drive the narrative of your responses quite so often.  I simply stated how many DE's we've drafted in the last half decade, that's all.

Quality depth at certain positions each draft vary greatly and this years class is at minimum allegedly deep at DE.  Was simply saying that I hope we come away with some quality young players that can get after the opposing QB this year.  I'm sure you wouldn't mind that either.

Making a blanket statement such as you did, without including the facts that for the reasons we haven't drafted a DE, is the reason you got the response you did.

I always want a good pass rusher.

I can't even remember the last draft that was decent in 43 pass rushers, where we were in position to grab one.

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
