Gettleman is getting absolutely destroyed by national media... STILL

what i keep hearing is all this nonsense about how gettleman can’t manage a roster bc they can’t relate to his way of interacting with departing talent. gettleman flipped the roster here and made the tough decisions that marty hurney never could which was why the team went nowhere. and he’s doing the same thing in NY and he’s got much better chemistry with the owners than he had with our philandering creep of an owner.

he didn’t put up with steve smith’s bullshit alpha antics, he didn’t put up with deangelo’s lazy work ethic, and he didn’t put up with any of the players’ senses of entitlement that they developed while the old leadership was there indulging them, and guess what? it was exactly what we needed. 4 playoff berths out of the 5 years he managed the roster here, which was as many as the team had in their entire history before he was brought in. you don’t just go 15-1 and make it to the superbowl in spite of a shitty general manager.

if things don’t work out with him in NY, at least he’ll be replaced for the right reasons. he won’t be fired up there bc he doesn’t kiss players’ asses enough. mara and tisch don’t give a fug about former player rants on twitter, they’re focused on the task at hand which is winning games and staying alive in january, and they’ve had one hell of an offseason of personnel changes. and i wish i can say the same for our organization but i just don’t see the same level of commitment to putting a winning product on the field. i’m starting to think that the majority of this fanbase deserves the half wit that’s running the team instead of somebody that knows where to find the right pieces to build a complete roster. it doesn’t have to be gettleman but it could’ve been somebody else that had the credentials.

stay in the south, folks. you won’t last north of a certain parallel for very long with your bleeding hearts.

How's it going, Dave?

bwaha.  3 winning seasons in 5 years.  got in the playoffs with a 7-8-1 record.   that doesn't really count.  and we had luke, cam, and jno killing it.  hurney's picks.   gman sucks.  you'll see how it turns out in ny.

At the time, I thought it was absolutely idiotic and unwarranted to fire Gettleman.

But, with the benefit of hindsight, firing Gettleman looks more and more warranted. I still think that it was a dumb move to bring back Hurney, a guy who had previously been fired for tanking the franchise.

He never managed to field a roster that could post consecutive winning seasons. I for one would like to get away from the brand of "success". Please stop touting the 2014 season as some proud accomplishment. He gutted a playoff team and left us with a team that snuck into the playoffs with a losing record only because of how putrid our division was. Do I even need to mention the way he dismantled our roster in historic fashion after 2015? Regardless of how you constantly try to spin it the other way Dave Gettleman is not a successful GM.

all I hear from your posts in this thread is "bup bup bup"

lol, I still love you tho

i said for years before i ever knew who dave gettleman was that the team needed a long overdue attitude adjustment. a culture shock. and a lot of ppl were in agreement with me. players here that were considered the “core” of the team were propped up as elite players and paid as such despite reeling in average at best production at their respective positions.

but i was also aware of what it would cost and that heads were going to roll, and i was willing to watch the team be transformed into a winner at that cost. and that’s exactly what happened. we won a lot more and a lot of fan favorites had to leave for it to happen. and everybody here got sour grapes over it.

so fug it. why try to win? the organization knows you guys are unhappy when your favorite player gets cut and your officially licensed $35 steve smith beer koozie becomes irrelevant bc he’s playing for the ravens now even if the team does better. you guys seem to get much more excited over soppy bullshit like one day retirement contracts and this lame fuging “hall of honor” which is probably going to get so inclusive that they’re going to start building these statues out of recycled coke cans.

So when you inevitably fail(while simultaneously being the best thing that ever happened to your division rivals) in NY, are you going to admit that you just aren't as smart as you think you are, Dave? Because for all of the talk about this being a Southern thing, I don't think you have paid much attention to how the NY Giant fans and NY media have been raking you over the coals for getting rid of most of the roster's elite talent. Or laughably screwing up drafting an Eli Manning replacement in consecutive years.....juuuuuust sayin'......

But really tho, how did that first season of success go there in NY? I didn't pay attention.

I get it, Dave. You are butt hurt because JR was spending time on jeans day and didn't have the time to devote to building up your waist sized ego. But.....let's be honest, you really ran yourself out of town by drafting as impotently as the 1990's Bengals and doing it while claiming you were some sort of prodigy.

It just makes Panthers fans laugh all the more that even bottom five GM Marty Hurney(ver. 2.0.1) has managed a roster better than you have in NY currently. By all means though, please tell everyone what a stud Daniel Jones is going to be and how multiple teams in the league were pining to take him in the top 15. Brilliant, sir.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
