Steve Beurlein blasts Luck for retiring

took a few tries!  you should see other espn pundits attack him.

Anyway, not to pick a specific time but let's say in March he announced his body just could not take it and his mind wasn't in the game anymore.  Not a single colts fan nor NFL fan would have the right to criticize the decision whatsoever.  Good on him.  The guy is head over heels for his fiance btw and that relationship is a huge factor.

But that is exactly my point.  The criticism he is taking is for the timing, not the decision itself or his right to make such a decision.

And I can see the point. But as I’ve asked everyone with this point of view. Do you truly believe he had all the same information about his health and had any idea he was going to not play this year(possibly) back in March. How can you make that same decision with completely different context? He’s tried practicing and was rehabbing all summer. If he was going to miss the season, what’s the difference to the Colts.

I read somewhere he did tell them this was possible around the draft, but who knows if that’s true. Timing sux, but it would have anytime. And it sounds like he just decided around August 19.

It’s like you’re being purposefully ignorant when multiple posters have told you straight from Andrew Luck’s mouth that he was waiting to see if his leg would get better. It didn’t. So he retired. This isn’t hard to understand.

I could easily argue his best decision would be to remain with the Colts and their staff this season. Whether he plays or not is moot.

And now clues are emerging that the Colt organization knew about Luck wanting to retire much earlier this off-season.   Although no dates given and March certainly not mentioned.  Would not surprise me a bit that they would muck this up and also be so clueless to realize the announcement coming near the eve of the season would have fans blame even a player so idolized as luck.  Watch for this anger to turn on the organization very soon.

If Irsay and the front office knew about this for months I certainly don't blame those asking for their money back on season ticket sales.  The whole "it's a business" cliche should include players, organization and fans!

That’s why I said I don’t know what to believe. But I would bet on Irsay’s incompetence over Luck trying to screw the team every time.

But, Luck was definitely either playing along, or truly believed he was going to play. So take that into consideration.

Luck's health issues are well-documented.  He must have had rock solid medical advice to ever play the game again after the issues with his neck.  Kudo's for the comeback and toughness displayed by his great season last year (raising huge expectations this year btw).

The highlighted question could be asked by those defending Luck as well as those feeling anger/betrayal.  No one knows.  Yet.

The question about the whole affair is who knew what/when?  The colts have long held his medical condition(s) far away from public scrutiny, as they should.  So again the timing of the announcement is what led to the boo's, not decision itself.  Now whether that timing falls on Luck or the organization is yet to be determined.

If it comes out that the organization knew this was a possibility months ago I expect the wounds for that fanbase to stay exposed for a long time and for the public anger at Luck to quickly focus back to a very unsympathetic franchise owner like Irsay.

I don't care what people say to defend Mr. Luck.

He's just Mr Asshole.

As a franchise QB and leader, you don't leave your team 2 weeks before the season opener.

Suck it up, be the man you're suppose to be. If he still feels that way at the end of the season, then retire.

Classless, no  Integrity, POS.

this is the point that I made in this thread it's still is my opinion. Nowhere in my post did I say that he doesn't have the right to make a decision for what's best in his life. No where am I calling him soft. The NFL is not a sport for the weak. It definitely chewed him up and spit him out.  It's quite unfortunate, but it also happens.  He could have handled this better.

I know it's extremely unpopular in this day and age for anybody to put anything above themselves.

But Luck knew exactly how his body felt in March and now. A lot can happen in 6 months. And a player expects to heal and get better over time. When they don’t it’s an issue. And with the prospect of missing the season became reality, he quit.

Does anyone really believe that Luck was hell-bent on screwing over the Colts? For what reason?

Oh, like the kind of guy who would not enter the draft in his junior year to avoid going to a certain team......?

But the post is about the anger at the fans booing Luck as he walked off the field.  They did not have the details, still don't.  They did not have the weekend to think about it.  All they knew is that while at a meaningless game where they were forced into paying full price, they were also getting cell phone updates that their hopes for a SB this year were getting trashed.  It was a knee jerk reaction and those feigning surprise at the boo's are either ignorant or revisionist.
