A short song for some unsung heroes

A lot of well deserved talk tonight about Kyle Allen, and a few others, but I'd like to throw some garlands of appreciation to a few other valuable contributors to today's upset win, on the road:

1) Joey Slye just keeps making those FGs, doesn't he?  He now leads the NFL with 4 FGs of over 50 yds. See, it all worked out that we didn't keep Butker, didn't it?

2) James Bradberry held the heralded DeAndre Hopkins to just 5 receptions, for a measly 41 yards.

3) Coach Rivera, who has turned this Defense into a force of its own, since he's taken over our defensive game planning.  Did you know our 18 sacks, in 4 games, are tied with NE for the league lead?

4) CMC.  Unsung? Maybe not, but did you know he joined Jim Brown as the ONLY TWO players in NFL HISTORY to record 175 yds from scrimmage, and a TD, in 3 of the first 4 games of a season?

5) Super Mario Addison has 5 sacks in the last 2 games, and is now 3rd in the league with 5 1/2.

6) Jarius Wright, who caught 5 passes, for 59 yds, and it seemed like every one was for a FD, as it always does.  The guy is clutch.

7) lastly, high fives for Vernon Butler, Ross Cockrell, and Eric Reid, all of whom put their marks on the win, as well.

All these contributors define a "team win," and it all bodes well for the future.

David Newton’s ESPN breakdown of today’s game...

This is what coach Ron Rivera envisioned during the offseason when he added more speed to the defense, particularly at outside linebacker, and made the switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 front after finishing 27th in the NFL in sacks a season ago.

Good one!  I had to read your post 3 times before I caught what you meant by needing an editor.

How does this idiot have a job?

Most people covering the team have very little enthusiasm for it. Remember, it’s their job. Jobs can become a mundane grind if you have the wrong mindset

Keep in mind, I said most. There are some very good people covering the team too, and I think you guys can figure out who they are.

Rodrigue and Person are two who actually do seem to enjoy their job, Rodrigue especially. Heck, Voth did it on his own for a while.

I honestly think the biggest problem with Newton is that he just doesn't have the necessary football background. He's a NASCAR reporter covering an NFL team.

Maybe it's some point, ESPN will see us as "worthy" of having a regular football reporter, but who knows?

    • I hate to burst anyones bubble but this guy played 188 total defensive snaps in three years but 802 special teams snaps. If we do kick the tires, it's probably gonna be for that latter part.
    • I do believe that Evero gets canned before the end of the season and Capers takes over the D. I think the stage is set for Evero to fall on the sword for a 4-7 win season.  Not saying it would be a set up but I do think if that transpires, the seat under DC might start getting pretty warm, rightly or wrongly. That's my read on Tepper. I am not at all excited nor am I dreading anything. I just have extremely low expectations so I am just waiting to see what this revision of the roster looks like.  I FEEL like we are better on paper than last season's team but I wouldn't be remotely shocked if we were as bad or worse. Again, I do think this is the 2nd worst roster in franchise history overall. What will really make me happy is for some of the big questions to finally be answered(Bryce, Ikey, Horn, etc). I would like to see a real expansion of our core player pool(basically just D. Brown currently). I want to see a couple of hits in free agency and a couple in the draft. If we accomplish those things, I have faith that we are at least moving in the right direction after many, many years doing the opposite.
