I wonder if getting Lehner from Chicago is possible.

My buddy and I had talked about that. I'd LOVE to get him if we can. That might be the move that puts us over the edge.

Is that the same Lehner who played for the Islanders last year and got lit up and swept in 4 straight?

It would be funny for me cause in NHL 19 I picked him up in free agency and he's been a beast.

Oh and I also traded for Edmundson before it actually happened, so that was a "wow" moment for me when we actually got him lol

He was great that series and those playoffs against the Penguins too.. we just straight up dominated the Isles skaters. Can’t blame Lehner at all for those games.

This morning I was literally thinking about Faulk and wondering how he is doing with the Blues. Then this appears at the top of my feed on FB lol.

He’s always had plays like that at times... Overall he’s been pretty damn solid for the Blues, but still was a necessary trade to get something for him (Bokk is looking like he could be a legit top 6 winger right shot—exactly what we need). We were never gonna give him that insane contract the Blues gave him.

Time to make that trade for Lehner and a defenseman. Not sure who is on the  trading block. The best I've heard of is Alec Martinez. Make those 2 trades and focus on getting in and making a run in the playoffs.

Depends on the price and term. Unless Lehner would sign long term for a reasonable price I wouldn’t trade much for him now (3rd rounder at most if just a rental—or a 2nd and get rid of Reimer’s contract). We have a ton of assets for the future and our roster as a whole is insanely young. I don’t want to give up something of value just to maybe get a little further in the playoffs this year or ensure a spot this year when it still likely wouldn’t be enough to contend for the cup right now. This team is going to be a staple in the top 3 of the metro for years to come with this core of Aho, Turbo, Necas, Svech, Slavin, Pesce and Dougie (if re-signed), don’t want to jeopardize some of the cheaper pieces we could have to build around them for the future just for some temporary help.

ofc it won't be temporary

Lehner probably would be, doubt he’d sign an extension this close to UFA unless it was a huge overpayment, and it’d be dumb to overpay a goalie, especially one with some concerns like Lehner.

We have to do something about the goaltending, though. We can't just ignore the obvious roster weakness.

Goaltending is 100% a weakness but since the start of 2020, we’ve only scored more than 3 goals twice. Offense has been just as big of an issue lately. Losing Dougie hurt that a ton but we also need our big boys to step up. And Staal has been absolutely useless this entire season. He should not be playing 2C minutes.

    • I mean, at the time that wouldn't have worked for them. The truth is that when they had the biggest advantage in that conversation was also when Notre Dame was at their peak arrogance and revenue stream creation(prior to the Longhorns Network, etc). Notre Dame was just never going to work out. The biggest thing they could have done is go hard AF and try to give insane deals to the premier Big 12 teams. Even then, most of them were eyeing the Big Ten and SEC. The biggest issue with the ACC was betting wrong. Miami and Virginia Tech ended up being disasters. Basically former college football powerhouses that ended up being afterthoughts by the time they arrived. I mean Miami specifically have literally had a total of three double digit win seasons since they joined the ACC in 2004 and two of those are in the past 2 seasons. Virginia Tech just fell apart at the wrong time, although I think Franklin will bring them back to prominence to an extent. Had we had it to do in hindsight, probably taking teams like TCU, Baylor, etc would have been wiser options than some of the moves into the Northeast and getting Miami.   But, ultimately, fug all this nonsense. It's the insane greed of college football that killed regional rivalries, college basketball and entire storied, REGIONAL conferences. That is the real blame. The thirst for the destruction of all college sports which sits squarely at the feet of the slobbering, ignorant rednecks and hillbillies at the top of the college football sphere.
