I have nothing to add to this discussion. In my view, it is all speculation.  The outcome of this "QB controversy" depends entirely on  when and if Cam heals up.  Until that happens, I believe Ron is right in trying to squelch all further talk about it.

But that's not to say I'm denigrating the thread.  Actually, I don't recall any time that I've Pie'd as many posts -- so many well-thought-out ideas on the subject!

I'm only happy that the team has shown so much resilience the last 4 weeks, and pray it continues...

Person pointed out in his most recent Athletic article that prior to the Arizona game, Rivera made clear statements that Newton was the starter and would be returning to the role as soon as possible.

He hasn't said so since.

What does it mean?  Based on everything we've heard, it means it's in discussion.

How that discussion plays out, nobody knows yet.

Cam is a better overall QB than Allen.  He is a better athlete.  But Cam has taken an NFL beating for about a decade.  No QB comes close to the # of hits he has taken--They take a toll.  So, you would invest $150m in Cam and get stuck behind an oft-injured QB for the next 5-6 years?  Cam without the run threat is like Secretariat without legs. 

We have athletes all around the QB position--no longer do we need the running QB.  We need a game manager who gets the ball out accurately and on time.  Samuel, Moore, CMC, Olsen, etc. are the runners with the ball.  We are winning with them because the QB position is too sacred to be diving into the endzone on a QB draw vs. goal line defenses.  That is what we asked Cam to do.

Cam could play another 5-7 years---I personally doubt it.  This ain't Madden-these injuries are for life.  Cam has shown no willingness to adapt to becoming a drop back passer--the style that allows QBs to last until they are 40 like Brees, Brady, Rivers, etc.  Heck, even Warren Moon told Cam that he would need to evolve to survive.  Moon used to be a running QB, but evolved in the NFL and became great.

Emotions aside, you go with the QB that wins games and you trade the "big decision" and take the winnings to build the future.  Just my opinion.  I see your points--but they require good weather and smooth seas.  We are not guaranteed that at all.

You claimed my post was biased than proceed to prove my point which I highlighted in the bold. 

Sam Bradford was a injury prone qb that damn near robbed every team he played for. You stated multiple times about cam’s body breaking down, when in reality, until recently he hasn’t missed significant time at all, the shoulder injury second to the lisfranc is probably his worst injury he’s suffered to date. Other qbs have missed far more time without the threat of being replace with a backup who’s performed better than Allen, that’s not biased that’s fact. 

To say all we need is a game manager is exactly what I don’t want to happen, that’s complacency at a all time high that will sink this team early in the playoffs as soon as the defensive unit doesn’t play well or cmc doesn’t play well. If we are seriously thinking about replacing cam, seriously, I would hope we’d want to go with someone significantly more talented as a passer than cam or clear cut better than a healthy cam, whether Kyle is that is unknown, but to based that off of 5 games is browns esq

To say cam hasn’t adapted to being a pocket passer is exactly what I’m referring to as short sighted, it was just last year cam made these same adjustments people said he couldn’t.

For QB1, today, the # = 0.

That estimate of 10 actually came from a source who is (or was) an NFL GM.

I disagree w/ the source.

Given what we know today the # = 0.
