NFL: That's gotta hurt a little

Patrick Mahomes, DeShaun Watson and our own Christian McCaffrey have two things in common.

All three are MVP candidates.

And all three were passed up by the Chicago Bears when they traded up to take Mitch Trubisky.

Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports points this out while suggesting that the Bears should try to atone for what he calls the "original sin" of that draft choice by trading for Cam Newton.

(yeah, good luck with that)

Regardless, if I were a Bears fan, I probably wouldn't wanna think about that fact too much.

Could be worse. They could have Sam Darnold.

Well to be fair, at least the Jets didn't trade up to #2 overall to take Darnold.

I remember watching that draft. It was shocking enough when they said the Bears had traded up. When they announced the choice, my jaw dropped.

(fairly certain a few million others did too)

Trubisky threw for over 3200 yards and 24 TDs vs. 12 INTs last season while completing 67% of his passes.

Even this season he's completing 64% of his passes for 839 yards (in basically 4 games) for 5 TDs and 2 INTs while having the #28 rushing attack in the NFL to "lean" on.

I won't argue that Trubisky has disappointed so far, but in terms of awful NFL QB play he's a weird place to plant your flag.

same and Im a die hard UNC fan/ homer. Sam Howell has done more to impress me in 7 games as a true freshman than Mitch did at ANY point during his time here.

That's not exactly a knock on Trubisky. Howell has been full on ridiculous. The guy is 16th in the NCAA in passing yardage, 9th in passing TDs, and has only thrown 3 INTs.

He's going to rewrite the UNC QB record books.

He and the coaching are the problem there. Not the RBs or even the OL.
