Alex Smith?

He's taken back over the 49ers starting spot and he's not locked up past this year. I have always been impressed with his physical skills and he's still relatively young. I think some of his struggles in SF have been due to changes in coordinators, systems, and trying to impress different coaches. I really think he could be a legitimate option as our QB next year and beyond. I really hope he tests the FA market after the season and doesn't re-sign...

meh....

most thought that david carr's problems had to do with him being on a crappy team.

not buying. i'd rather see what moore has. crap, i'd rather see mccown get a chance. smith...if he's available and really cheap and we were going to have a real competition for the job, sure why not give him a shot? i just wouldn't put much on the line for him.

Carr's problem was he was shell shocked and needed to sit a year and learn a system with no pressure. He didn't get that here and was literally booed out of town. Now that he's had that he doesn't look that bad in NY. If Smith can rebound this year then I think it'd be worth giving him a shot. But of course if he does then SF will probably lock him up.

IMO, from when I've seen Smith, his game is nothing like Carr's. He actually looks to get rid of the ball whereas Carr would just sit in the pocket all day and wait to be sacked. I just think he has a lot of potential and could be had for a bargain price.

    • At least Rivera got the Super Bowl, and then lost is because he refused to adjust.  Rod’s likely will never get to the Stanley Cup unless the team he coaches is stacked and can overcome Rods weird decisions making.
    • Reddit has one of the most toxically positive fan base. You cannot criticize the team at all. If you do downvoted.
    • We've literally seen him hop around the pocket to survey the field in multiple occurrences. Defenses have this on tape. Cam and QB's like him built the way he was height and strength wise could get by on those natural gifts in their prime. Bryce Young is unequivocally going to have to go above and beyond with his footwork in order to carve out not just a long career but an elite career worthy of a top overall draft selection. We should be able to wholeheartedly agree with one another on that. Intermediate sideline throws without placing the ball out of bounds where the receiver has to contort themselves or make an absurd acrobatic catch for it to be a completion. And yes developing a better chemistry in the deep passing game with his receivers to avoid miscues. Both areas will need to see improvement if the young offense is to develop the way we hope in 2025. And we don't necessarily need to be winning mind you. But development of the supporting cast requires this from Bryce. We have invested a ton of capital in the offensive line. We've invested heavily in WR. We've invested in our backfield. We've invested in TE. We've got a young up and coming offensive minded head coach. The expectation should be for our redzone efficiency to improve significantly. That is not just on Bryce Young. But at the end of the day it will always begin and end with him more often than not. It's always been that way and that's just the nature of the position in this league. And not for nothing but before we drafted Bryce Young nobody was going around here saying we need elite play across the board and top shelf coaching for him to be effective. His biggest selling point was his ability to succeed off script and make something out of nothing. We're certainly going to have to see that come to fruition. Now we wait.
