Interesting to note that the Panthers beat the Falcons 38-0 in the first game of 2015, but since that game, Shannahan has completely owned us as offensive coordinator and head coach.

Funny thing...

Had Rivera been fired under Gettleman (something I never thought was too likely because they worked well together, but if) prior to his going to San Francisco, I think there's a pretty good chance Kyle Shanahan could have been our head coach.

Gettleman's first Super Bowl ring came in Denver back when Papa Mike was coaching. It wouldn't surprise me if Dave and Kyle were acquainted.

Best offensive team, possibly so. Best defensive team? LOL!

best team.

and this defense is built different than some of the others.  Means the strengths and weaknesses are different.  But one game doesn't change the fact this defense is extremely dangerous at full strength.

I still repeat.  NFL has always been about matchups.   You can take the clear cut best team in the NFL.....and the team that is their biggest threat isn't always the clear cut 2nd or 3rd best team.   Could be the 10th best overall team that poses the biggest problems for that team.  49ers are a horrible matchup for this defense.  Simple as that.  And because of that.....the offense couldn't do what they do.  Which they could of vs SF.

People can think what they want.  I still feel the same way overall about this team I did  before the 49er game.  We matchup a lot better against most of the NFL that will matter down the stretch.   If we get a healthy Cam back I think we have a decent shot.

Hope you're right, but I'm not seeing it.

So far, my judgment of this year's squad is that it's another season where we look like world beaters against bad teams but can't hang with the good ones.

I've seen a lot of those with the Panthers, and more than once under Rivera.

We're a bottom of the barrel run defense. We're going to have to improve that. I'm just seeing absolutely zero argument for ranking this current team ahead of our 2015 team.

O-Line sure as heck doesn't look as good as the 2015 version did.

And I'm still concerned that outside of Kuechly, very few people on our defense seem to know how to wrap up worth a damn.

(that's been true for way too long, especially under a defensive-minded coach)

Seattle is the team we would want the tie breaker over.  Not SF though.

If Cam returns.  We will be okay.   This is still the best team we have surrounded Cam with

SF would have been money in the Bank and a win over them would have gave us a shot at the Div and a game over the Rams. Now like you said we need to beat Sea but the Rams still could edge us on the tie breaker.

One part of that interview absolutely pissed me off.

Cosell said that the 49ers didn't do anything special with us on offense, they just did the same thing they've been doing every game this year.

So it's not like there wasn't tape to review.

Heck it's not like this wasn't something we'd already seen for a couple of years before.

Given that Rivera should have damn near intimate knowledge of how Shanahan runs and offense by now, and noting that the 49ers weren't doing anything outside their usual MO, I would have been okay if we had just lost this game. But under those conditions, getting run all up and down the field like we were a scout team is just inexcusable.

How will Ron apologists explain this one I wonder?

There is no excuse for the loses we take like this. And it happens almost every year under Ron. Did he actually prepare any at all?

Isn't he supposed to be some defensive genius?

God help us if he isn't let go at the end of the year.

best team surrounding the QB.   So you can't compare results w/ Allen vs MVP Cam.  A healthy Cam inserted into this team is better overall team than the 2015.  Which was much weaker offensively around the QB IMO.  D is actually pretty comparable IMO overall.

Eeehh, I think that's a stretch.

Prior to this season, everybody thought our receivers would be world beaters but now they're generating questions, and I don't think you can put all that on the QB.

Throw in that we still don't know what "healthy Cam" looks like this year.  Anybody expecting 2015 Cam is likely to be disappointed.

You might get 2018 Cam but even that's not guaranteed, and how long does he stay healthy?

(especially behind our current offensive line)

I just don't buy the Rams being there at the end based off of what they have shown.  I think Seattle is the Wildcard team from the NFCW to compete with.

I think  Seattle, Vikings, Panthers, Philly or Cowboys are the 4 that will compete in the end for the wildcard spots.

It's a choice but I really wish we didn't have to worry about it. All I can blame is Rivera.

Exactly the harsh reality is our line sucks at least at LT. Really everywhere when run blocking.

they haven't played a single game w/ a healthy Cam.  A healthy Cam gives them more room to run and get open.  I mean you could call it a push if you want....CMC however makes this 2019 squad the better cast.  Cam has a legit MVP caliber player that can take over a game and is essetnialyl unstoppable.

I mean if Cam doesn't return healthy it is all a mute point.  And I tend to believe he has been put on the shelf at this stage.  He is rehabbing but not for a 2019 return.  Just easier to say that much later in the season vs now.  Saying it now, opens the organziation up to a nightmare in terms of dealing w/ the press and all that.  Because I still believe, the Panthers org isn't being truthful on Cam and the plans.  Just too many red flags that have never made sense. to me.  Hope I am wrong.
