Two really quick questions that you need to be honest about.

Something to ponder....

1. If you are the Carolina Panthers do you give Cam Newton an extension?

2. If you are Cam Newton, do you step foot on a field under a 1 year contract?

1.  Hell no.

2.  Hell yes.

The guy is under contract and is morally and contractually obligated to play out that contract.

And FTR....in the absence of some damning new information between now and the drop dead date, I believe the Panthers should probably stick with Cam going into next season...  (vs. cutting him to save the $19 million or whatever it is)

Well, I mean he let himself get pummeled to the ground while holding a team, and the teams relevancy on his back....

I would think we could afford him the opportunity to take extended amount of time to heal, without it being a discussion of his viability

If we put Cam out for trade, the teams that will bite, are literally the same type of teams that we are.

Bears, great defence with an expensive [trade capitol] qb

So the thing they are missing, is the same thing we are missing????

Why the fug would you trade that away???

There are teams. Salivating to get cam. And we are sitting here arguing weather a great back up qb is as good as out IRd mvp qb is.

I don’t know what people think about drafting a quarterback.

look at Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and company.

you could get a Carson Wentz or you could get a SAM Darnold,..

personally I think Cam returns and you use our draft to get better around him.

Both depend on health...

#1 more likely than #2...

morally?   for the love of pete that's the most ridiculous take i'll ever see.

Like most people, his understanding of the words he uses is vague and imprecise at best. I’d almost guarantee he’s using morally interchangeably with ethically, because you see them used in conjunction with each other all the time.

No and No.   I'd move on and start investing in some serious Offensive Line help, need some big boys who can give any QB enough time to read the field, get comfortable as well as give a good push to open lanes for RB.

Our pass protection definitely could use an upgrade but I’d argue that the fact CMC is leading the league in rushing yards with a backup qb whose deep passing to stretch the D is questionable strongly suggests that our Oline has been run blocking pretty dang well.

I think it is a little half and half, I think CMC is just that good and could be even better with big boys slapping the D-linemen around.  Correct me if I am wrong but it appears CMC big gains are to the outside, using his speed to get around the edge, away from the D-line.  Up those guts runs seem to be more stuffed than success.  I am a big believer that it ALL starts in the trenches so i want to see a superior O-Line that has teams talking how to get pass our great wall of china.

Nope. Off the top of my head at least two of his long TD runs have come from bursting through a hole right up the gut created by superior blocking, one of those being the 56 yarder this past sunday, the other the franchise record length run against Jacksonville. When you run between the tackles at the NFL level, some percentage of those runs are gonna get stopped for 3 yards or less, that's true regardless of who the rb is or how great your Oline is, the talent level at the NFL just dictates it's going to happen with some regularity. But when your rb is able to punch through the middle more than once in a blue moon as CMC has done this season, that indicates you are getting pretty strong performance in run blocking.

I don't think we have an elite Oline, but I do think that their performance overall in run blocking has been strong. You don't often see CMC get handed the ball and have literally nowhere to go as you often did his rookie season, which being a season in which we had a healthy Cam under center, meant that defenses had to contend with a greater deep ball threat than we currently have in Allen and thus could afford to stack the box against the run less, yet stuffed CMC more. That was a season where I regarded our run blocking as poor to put it mildly. This season I think it has been strong.

Can and should you always be looking to get better? Ofc, but as things stand right at this moment, I'd be more inclined to regard adding depth to the receiving corps as a greater priority on the offensive side of the ball than improving the o line, and if Little is able to return at some point and continue to show promise, and if Daley continues to look like a steal, then my only real concern on the Oline might be drafting a center because as of this moment Paradis looks like the weak link and the biggest question mark.

Teams close to a ring don’t need a QB

but the raiders are loading up with really good young players and have lots of draft picks in their pocket

i gotta admit he would look good in a raiders uniform.  he would look good in vegas too.   def would be my 2nd favorite team

I don't think there's realistically any chance of number one happening.

We really don't know what Tepper is thinking, at this point. Cam hasn't really been Cam since Tepper arrived on the scene, so I can't say whether Tepper wants to keep Cam or not.

However, from a business perspective, this is the classic buy low/sell high opportunity. No doubt the cost of signing Cam to a deal is less now than it would have been after the Panthers 6-2 start last year. As someone else said, $19M for a QB1 is a bargain these days. The key is Cam's health and that has to be determined - honestly - before the contract is negotiated.

I'd try to limit the contract to three years, but doubt Cam would sign it. Players want *some* security. How many contracts are long-term only to find out they are realistically shorter-term deals? So, five years on the face of it, but three years with options. It helps kick the can down the road in trying to find the next QB1 for the Panthers.

If it doesn't work out? Okay, go to plan B. But the Panthers are not setup to draft a franchise QB in the next few years without either making some VERY painful trades or mortgaging future drafts.
