If we begin next season with Allen as our starting QB, then I'm turning in my Panthers fan card.

Cam is a big ?... multiple worries there. i notice and havent liked his energy breaking the huddle (no pun intended) in last couple years...he looks timid...just going thru the motions... is it because hes been beat up...injures wearing on him... shittty relationship with ronald? he doesnt come out with something to prove anymore...or chip on his shoulder... babies, daffodils and pzzy might be another reason...the worry is, hes going to hamstring us a little on the cap and not produce...its a real concern and we have no guarantees on how hes going to respond...which will keep us in limbo for another 2-3 years if he doesnt return to form... so...inexperience Allen or an ineffective Cam = the same..  under this offensive plan...they both run for their lives...

We can have around $80M in cap space when we cut Olsen, Poe, Gano, Moncreif, Mike Davis, and restructure KK and Luke. No need to ship Cam off so eagerly, especially for one first rounder.

Invest that $80M in bringing some vets back on the defense (McCoy, Irvin,) inking Bradberry to a deal worth around $12M or less in the first year, letting Shaq test the market and come back way lower than we thought he would (no more than $8M in the first year, otherwise just push someone up the depth chart or find one in the draft,) signing a couple OL vets to hefty deals (a LT and a G,) drafting/FAing interior DL depth and CB/S depth, bring in a vet WR or draft one early.

Profit.

2010 isnt 2019, since he came back he's been a fine drafter.

Really? Are you sure about that?

Hurney got to choose between the top 2 wrs in the draft at pick 24. That was luck. He then took Donte Jackson who I liked but has been just an average cb. Don’t let the INTs lie to you, he’s not that good. Then in the 3rd round he took Gaulden who was just cut yesterday. Ian, Carter, Haynes and Smith are bench warmers. And Norton wasn’t even on the team last year.

now this year,  Burns is good. Little showed some promises but has been injured for quite a bit and struggled recently. Hurney passed on Cody Ford who has started 10 out of 11 games for the Bills. Will Grier has a sissy arm and won’t last very long in the NFL unless he can find a way to be Matt Moore 2.0. Hurney is average as hell.

it wasnt luck at all, thats about where they were projected to go. and on top of that he statistically chose the better player of those two wrs, which is no small feat esp. since there were so many people hyping up ridley for being the big school national championship kid. donte jackson has been a bit bad lately, but his rookie year he was a solid cb, and we had this same situation occur with bradberry who was bad in year 2 as well. sophomore slumps are a common thing, and even if you wanna call him average right now, having a 22 year old with 4.2 speed that's already average is a pretty good thing to have. these are PROSPECTS, they wont come into the league being dominant players. if donte shows no improvement in year 3 then i'll be worried, even then iirc there's only like what, a 30% chance of finding a starter in the 2nd round? regarding the latter part of the draft, yeah it wasnt that great,  but ian has shown flashes and i think that his lack of production isn't his fault but rather greg's farewell tour and rivera's hardon for veterans reering its head. when playing he's shown some flashes, and could very well be our starting TE next year. getting a starter in the 4th round is a good ass pick, most players there are just gambles and prayers.

regarding this year, burns was a DROTY candidate pre-injury like you said, a really good pick at 16, regarding little i dont think hurney can really be blamed, he looked good before he got fuged up with injuries as well and iirc little didnt have much injury history pre draft. with ford yeah but you can  say that with anyone, you can go back to any draft and look at where your team picked and probably find someone better. little is a questionmark but again he's just a rookie. i don't think it's fair to judge this class yet, we saw what happened with some of DGs old classes that got poo on relenthlessly yet now are looking quite decent. gaulden was quite horrific, ill give you that, even at the time it happened it made no fuging sense, and you want a 3rd rounder to atleast be decent depth.

still, i was arguing the point that hurney was a BAD drafter, i wouldnt 100% disagree with the take that he's average, i'm not sure exactly how he stacks up to the rest plus the sample size is still quite small, but his hit rate on first round picks is amazing historically, and he's had a few really great late round picks. hurney's very hit or miss, he usually always hits in the first round, picks an ok dude in the 2nd, and then every other year or so he'll find some random probowler in like the 4th or 5th round. is that average? im not really sure, it's a quite chaotic average thats for sure. he's as inconsistent as we are as a franchise, but finding a good gm isnt easy, the reason i'd say he's above average is because the competition outside of a few isnt really that great.

Hard to say he's been a fine drafter. It usually takes 3 years for rookies to determine if they are a good pick or a bust.

My issue with him hasn't been his drafting. It's been how he's handled Ron and the Cam catastrophe.

thats fair to say but his picks so far have looked pretty damn good, definitely good progress to see out of the players. yeah regarding hurney, he shouldve stepped in and done SOMETHING. it's as if he just kinda sat around watching it. as a sheer GM he's been good but he's really out of the way of the actual team and coaching staff, which idk if its a good thing.
