I included his direct quote, Scot. Lol, he said he didn't want to lose him.  I would say that means he's safe and wants him around long-term.

Did he specifically state that Marty was staying as GM?

If that were the case, why not just say that?

"Not wanting to lose him" doesn't mean he keeps his current job, especially not when he talks about how he could bring someone else in for that role. I'd say there's a definite possibility he could get a job like head of college scouting or something of that sort.

Would also throw in everything I'm reading about the new VP job they're adding makes it sound like that guy is gonna have ultimate say on football decisions. SO unless Marty is given that role, I don't necessarily see him being the final word.

wait till he fks up the cap...has a handful of stars and no supporting cast...which got us to where we are at...see how Money Money likes that...

Time for the F150 Panther fans who are still working minimum wage jobs in their 40s to howl about how they have a sharper analytical mind than David "13 billion, richest owner in the NFL" Tepper in evaluating draft success.

Let them try for the 100th time to dismiss the fact that Hurney has drafted more Pro Bowlers than all but three general managers in the NFL, by citing a 3rd round miss from 2008.

You see, it doesn't matter that Hurney consistently finds Hall of Famers, because he drafted ARMANTI EDWARDS!.  Other GMS have a perfect record in the 2nd round.

So glad to have such a brilliant owner.

It sounded like it.  When he went on to describe the organizational hierarchy, he sounded like Marty was at the top and the new guy would be the equivalent to a "COO," like he hired on the business side.  It didn't sound like he was planning on removing or reassigning Marty.

He said the new VP role would be the COO, not Marty. Voth quoted that specifically on his Twitter.

Again, if Hurney is definitely staying GM, why not just flat out say that?

That's who I was referring to - the new VP.  He stated it as though Marty would be in the same position, and then the VP would be the equivalent to a COO.

Also, in the new impromptu with the media, he just reiterated that Marty is a "very good GM."

Saying he doesn't want to lose him, wants to hire someone as VP of Football Ops to help, and that's he's very good in his current role are all pretty affirming statements, I would think.

Carolina Huddle posters - "Marty Hurney is so disrespected around the league no one even offered him an interview and he had to go back to radio"

"Marty Hurney is one of the best recognizers of college talent in the nation, PERIOD, I don't want to lose that - 13 billion dollar Hedge fund legend David Tepper

Then why not just say "Marty is staying as the GM"?

If it's that simple, why wouldn't you just make a clear statement?

The further he explained, I don't think so.  He described Marty as like the head GM and if he were to use a business term for the impending hire, he said they would be like the COO.  So, I'm thinking it's gonna be a collaborative GM office.

Either way it takes full control from Hurney which isn’t a bad thing

Tepper just said it in his interview with Voth explaining the moves today.

Tepper said, "Marty Hurney is one of the best recognizers of college talent in the nation.  Period.  I don't want to lose that."

I love this.  I stated something similar in all-pro.  Hurney is far from perfect, but his ability to hit big on the picks that matter is uncanny, so that is an asset.  But he needs balance.  His decisions in FA have been pretty bad, so bringing in someone to handle that side is perfect.  I know this is a bummer for many, but I love it.

Honestly, I interpret this similarly to his emphasis on putting players in positions to succeed. It’s doing the same thing with his staff.

Hurney succeeds immensely in the first couple of rounds of the draft. Other areas are weaknesses though. Put him in a position to succeed where his strengths are
