Everyone says Hurn Dawg is great at college scouting but this is the same guy that traded up to pick Armanti Edwards, among several other full retard moves throughout the years. Let's not even start in on the cap hell he left us in that we spent years climbing out of.

Well, not everyone does.

Now granted, David Tepper thinks he's incred...ummm...very good.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Hurney will keep full power.  I share the opinion that it's humorous to see everyone dissect every word in a desperate attempt to show Hurney may not be sticking around.

Hurney isn't going anywhere, but it's very obvious he's also not going to be a one man show.

Armanti Edwards the 89th pick in the draft, late third round

Find me literally one general manager in the entire NFL (who has had many drafts) who has not picked someone equal to or worse than Armanti Edwards in the third round

Seriously, try it

Find me one

Armanti Edwards played 41 games in the NFL;  he's more or less your typical third round.  He was even a good kick returner for a couple of seasons.  Edwards contributed more to the Panthers than Daeshon Hall ever did.

I'm looking through the Patriots draft history right now, and seriously, 80% of their third rounders are busts.  Most of the third rounders they picked the past 5 years never even played for them.

People have a very strange hysteria and fixation with Hurney when it comes to late round picks that fails to take into account the incredibly high bust rate for mid round picks for literally every team in the NFL.

Latest reports are the assistant gm hiring is a year away. So Hurney at this moment based on latest information will have this next season as the lone guy to prove himself.

Exactly. The ones trying so hard to downplay his role are also the posters who are Hurney's biggest critics and we're likely upset when Tepper essentially gave him praise. Tepper discounted much of their constant complaints.

Thank you, Captain Contrary. Your opinion is always appreciated :)

Perhaps you could actually post something yourself once instead of just doing your usual schtick?

I could name you Belichick's mid round draft picks the past decade, or Newsome's, or Colbert's, but you wouldn't have heard of 90% of them, because they were almost all busts

Are these three Hall of Fame managers terrible at their job, or, perhaps, there is very little talent in the mid rounds of the NFL draft and you're very lucky to get a solid starter out of it.

Hurney is above average late in the draft;  this is a guy who found gems in

Steve Smith, Greg Hardy, Josh Norman, Greg Olsen (t), Ryan Kalil, Carles Johnson, Evan Mathis, DeShaun Foster, etc

Dennis Daley, Donte Jackson, Ian Thomas, Christian Miller, and Haynes look promising

I did post something twice. In this thread. If my schtick is to sometimes point out how predictable people's opinions are and how biased based on previously held notions which they maintain even when the facts may suggest otherwise, you are right. Sorry if that bothers you.

Get back to me when you can post something more worthy than your usual "You're wrong, I'm right" bit trying to troll somebody into a back and forth. That's pretty much how about 99% of your posts break down. It's boring.

And yes, I can predict your response will likely be "nuh uh, that's you", so save it.

But hey, at least you don't post as many walls of text as you used to. I'll give you that.

So anyone who disagrees with you is contrary and wrong?  Didn't know your opinion was the only one and totally objective.  Seems to me you do a good job of taking facts and spinning them to your own point of view and then try to ridicule anyone who disagrees. Not only are you wrong about my posts but totally predictable. I guess at least because I am older than you, I don't get the old listen sonny and all the comments about how long you have watched football and know more than anyone else. And I love the hypocrisy of criticizing my walls of text after you did that in several posts on the main forum as we speak. Funny how we often ascribe our own motives and behaviors to others.

First Simms doesn't really pay attention to the Panthers and Rivera. He pays attention to the myth but not the reality.

Like he didn't realize that as good and respected Rivera is considered, he had only had 3 winning seasons.

In the same way he thinks that hurney always has stout lines and doesn't get pushed around. Further evidence he's not paying attention.

I did like that they brought up the assumption that Rivera will find a job right away. People thought the same thing about Holmgren, yet here he sits unemployed still even though he's probably a stronger candidate than Rivera with a much better record.

So what is the problem? Teams are looking for younger, more progressive coaches. They are also looking more at offensive coaches willing to build be a team with a young QB. With the exception of Holmgren being an offensive coach, that makes both guys undesirable dinosaurs as far as a lot of teams are considered.

The assumption that Ron will have no problem getting another HC job doesn't take into account the direction most teams are wanting to go, which isn't too far from the direction Tepper wants to go.

Ron might get a job quickly, but it's far from the sure thing a lot of people make it out to be.

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
