Rivera wants to coach for "a winner"

Maybe it's just me, but it's hard to listen to somebody say something like that and not hear "I don't really want to work that hard".

To be fair, that's not necessarily what he means but...

I don't get the sense that Ron is a good football coach. What I mean by that is, he doesn't really develop players. That's okay if you surround yourself with coaches who can develop players, but Ron doesn't really like to do that either, as they may pose a threat to his job. Outside of Norv, I don't know of any coach we have had with an outstanding pedigree (Fewell, maybe?).

So, Ron understands his weaknesses. He can't develop players, but as long as they are already pretty good, he is good being a player's coach. He's a good person and that works well with players who don't need much coaching, but do need a mentor. Lots of players like playing for Ron. That's why he made those statements. He needs a near ready product in order to be successful.

I believe I also read an article where it describes Ron as an 8-5 coach. He doesn't  like to stay late and spend a lot of time breaking down the next opponent. That certainly showed in the Panthers efforts after bye weeks, to be sure.

No one has even gotten further in life by cloaking himself in the perception of being a 'family man', and a 'good guy'.

Whoever hires him will regret being cloaked by it, although I think he can be successful if he had very good coordinators on both sides of the ball.  The chances of him hiring a good staff are slim though, as he will just gravitate to whoever he is comfortable with, rather than who is competent.

Is what he knows he's worth the same as what he's actually worth?

The market will tell him what he's worth. But as a candidate entering this market I would think that Cowboys job would be at the top of his list.  Start high then settle if needed.

Loooots of speculation right now that Jerry Jones goes after Lincoln Riley.

It isn't hard to imagine. Jones is nothing if not bombastic.

Heck, Jones might figure that his best success came with a former college coach. Of course, this one might be more willing to listen to his suggestions (which Jones still apparently thinks have merit).

He doesn't say so specifically, but it doesn't sound like he believes the Panthers fit that description.

Honestly, this year's team is the best we've had (on paper) in a very long time. Cam has carried some pretty bad teams in the past. Was excited to see what he could do with a few playmakers and a competent offensive line - at least I thought they'd be competent going into the season.

I'm not sure I buy that idea.

Roman Harper was on the radio recently saying that the Panthers roster probably isn't anywhere near as good as people think it is.

With the advantage of hindsight, sure. But going into the season, when was the last time the o-line looked this good? Or the WR corp? Or the RB group? Or the TE group? Pass Rushers? DTs? Secondary?
