Isn't us refusing to do so even as recently as last year when he was clearly injured why we are in this current predicament?

Obviously knowing what we know now, I would say yes sit him, especially since he's a vet.

Cam was injured.  CMC is not.

Again, would you have forced Cam to sit when he was healthy, as soon as the playoffs were out of reach?

Last two games in 2011 when he's going for OROY?

Last two games in 2016?

Again, my analytical brain says yes, you force them to sit, take the L's and get a better draft position.  All the while sitting lots of vets, and getting some younger guys some snaps.  Hell yes, that sounds good in theory, but again, these guys train all year, and practice all week to be able to play on Sunday...you are taking that from them.

Name some big records or milestones he came close to breaking or did break.

What is the standard you are looking for? He was rookie of the year, and began his career throwing for almost a thousand yards in his first two starts. He was also an MVP and one of the most prolific rushing quarterbacks the league has seen in years. Yes his passing numbers over his full career aren't eye popping but in terms of the full package he brought in his prime I don't really think it's a question he's shattered some records. In terms of player milestones, league MVP has got to be up there.

Circumstances are a bit different for rookie quarterbacks, especially those drafted first overall. But we are talking about the last few years. In terms of the possibility of injury risk it can happen to anyone obviously. But with CMC there is the harsh reality about the evolving shelf life for running backs in the NFL these days. Is it worth it racking up more wear and tear on a player of McCaffrey's caliber in a lost season with all our upcoming needs including offensive line, and quarterback?

It's no different, I am talking about healthy players, not injured ones.  It's clear that we should have shut down Cam last year, but we didn't.

The question remains, do you shut down healthy players, especially young ones chasing milestones or awards because it's best for your team?

I think this mostly depends on who starts at QB on Sunday. If we are finally giving Grier the start, it's probably not a good idea to do so removing McCaffrey from the equation given the state of our OL. I don't really think records play much of a role. I'm sure they are aware of it no doubt, but there are more pressing concerns right now.

I beg to differ on the records thing.

I'm sure that Cam is very proud of his offensive rookie of the year award.  Had he been a healthy scratch the last two games of the season he may not have won it....starting our life with Cam off on a sour note.

I think you have to go with what the player wants to do, that decision is taken out of his hands as soon as there is injury involved.

I could be wrong but, by my count, CMC only needs 8 more catches on the year to pass both Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. for most receptions within your first three seasons in the NFL.

For perspective, if he passes both of them dudes, he'd be #2 on the list ALL TIME behind Michael Thomas.

That's a pretty impressive feat for a Running Back.

Very likely he comes up just short of that , 186 receiving yards is a lot for a RB in 2 games. Its possible but somewhat improbable.

I'm guessing he ends up with about 1450 rushing and 925 receiving.

Just keep throwing check downs to him next two games and he will get it. Tell everyone else to just deal with it so he can get his stats.

On a related note, I'd just like to jump in here to thank Igo for posting that troll-mute-stfu thing a while back. This place got a lot more pleasant. Don't you agree? Oh, wait, I guess I'll never know...
