Dan Graziano: Titans VP/player personnel Ryan Cowden as a potential front-office hire in Carolina

Carolina is in no apparent hurry and is looking to add some folks to its front office around GM Marty Hurney. I still have my eye on Titans VP/player personnel Ryan Cowden as a potential front-office hire in Carolina, given his roots in the Panthers organization.

He joined the Titans in 2016 after 16 years with the Carolina Panthers. In Carolina, Cowden last held the title of Assistant Director of College Scouting, a position he held for two years. Prior to that role, he served as the team’s National Scout/Senior College Scout for two years (2012-14) and was a national scout from 2008-12.

1 hour ago, Mr. Scot said:

His one downside is that none of the potential head coaches are connected to him.

Greg Roman might have, but he's not a candidate.

I’ll take that downside if he is a piece added to help balance Hurney after round 1

If Tepper is going to hire an analytics oriented HC why would he want to fortify the player evaluation area with a traditional viewpoint.  IMO he will bring in someone who will add the analytics side to Hurney. Cowden doesn’t seem to be that person.

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
