That scares me a little.

Sounds like Tepper is putting a huge amount of money into an unproven commodity.

Sure hope it works.

Hey, it's his money! He has it to burn! Pretty sure if Rhule turns rotten, Tepper won't have any qualms disposing of him before the expiration date.

That's a lot of money to bet on a college coach with very little pro experience.

Fair, but what impact dose it have on the product if it does not impact salary cap?  Its just money out of Teps pocket.  You worry he might be gun shy to to sign a big name coach later?

It's not as much of the impact of the money as it is wondering about whether this was a good choice or not.

If it isn't, it's potentially a sign that Tepper isn't necessarily the greatest decision maker on football things.

Throwing a lot of money at something only to have it not turn out so well would be a very Dan Snyder / Jerry Jones type move.

I hear that.  The only saving grace here is that at least he has the conviction and the means to jump on what he wants rather than be scared to make a move.

It's a big time wait and see kinda thing... And based on what Tepper has stated we might have to really wait  before we see sustained success.

That's not similar to this situation at all. Snyder and Jones aren't the type of owners to throw a bunch of money at their coaches and let them have full control. They both seem to be changing their style with their recent hires but it still remains to be seen.

What Tepper is doing is the exact opposite of what those owners are known for: buying in to Rhule's sports science program, letting him choose his staff, etc. Rhule is a program re-builder and there is no way he takes the Panthers HC job if Tepper is going to be back seat coaching the whole time like Snyder and Jones.
