He was a scout and head of pro scouting for like 8 years.  Cleveland and Indy.

He had like a brief forray in Cleveland as like asst vp of pro personnel, a far flung job from somebody who sits down and digests how a college athlete can break down a defense. Those guys are usually there to provide contract consult or some such

edit: he was sought after because he has an economics degree from Harvard, which you so conveniently left out of your last post.

Career trajectory:

Assistant Scout (2009-2011) ---> Pro Scout (2011-2012) ---> Pro Scouting Coordinator (2012-2016) --- VP of Player Personnel (2016-2018)---> VP of Football Operations (2018-Present)

His degree doesn't negate the fact he was and built his career path through being in scouting then personnel positions. It's an added awesome.  Also, I see no reporting that his degree is why he's being considered.  It's his resume and how quickly he's worked his way up in the league.

Quote

Berry “had his hand in everything from scouting to operations to contracts to strategy” while in Philadelphia, according to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network

It sounds like you're talking out of your ass.

And it sounds to me like you're so determined to get him on a plane because his name is Not Marty Hurney that you would sign literally anyone nàmed Not Marty Hurney that it just makes you look like some ranting Facebook fan.

lol do you even know what any of those titles mean? Because it would seem you do not.

Who even uses facebook anymore? Weird insult but okie...

You specifically said he's not a scouting guy and that he's being considered because of an economics degree.  Explain.

After a simple google search, all indicators point to him having a great resume including both his education and experience to which makes sense why teams are considering him.  I'm not claiming to know exactly what he did because I don't.  But I am interested to understand what you're trying to convey here...

what I was saying is it his value to NFL teams stems from his economic background, which is why he was rushed through any actual competitive role and placed into ancillary support jobs regarding administrative duties, contracts, scouting deployment, etc etc.

The mere fact that we are looking at him for the job we are is, obviously, a testament to the role we believe he's qualified to fit here

Fair enough, particularly your last bit there.

I'm however cautioning at these blanket assumptions.  Looks like he was a cornerback for 4 years in school so he's part of the game and not a pure numbers guy.  I know, it's Harvard but the guy clearly likes football, played it for years, then started his career as an Assistant Scout.

And sure, the personnel dept. positions can sometimes be title over substance and some fluff but every team operates differently and I just see a diverse and interesting portfolio.  Maybe he does have legit GM potential.  I guess we'll see!
