They are supposed to give it fair market value

Stop right there. That’s exactly right. MARKET value. What would someone pay for it.  NOT what it’s worth to the owner. That’s all a gov can reasonably ask for.

My current house is worth a ton to me. It’s where my kids were born, it’s the perfect location for us, friends live in the neighborhood, etc. I wouldn’t sell it if someone offered 100k more than it’s market value.

Do you think it would be fair for the county to tax my property on what they think I personally value the property at?

No, that’s not how this works and it’s not the LAW.

LA is building a $2B stadium.

Buffalo definitely wants a new stadium. So does the Jacksonville owner. And they will get one. So will we.

LA needed to build a new stadium, practically and to lure teams back to their city.

EVERYONE WANTS a new stadium.  The question is-is it best for taxpayers and PSL owners.

PS-The Chiefs signed Terrell Suggs too.  Just an FYI for those keeping hypocrisy score at home.

Just read where super bowl will net the league $4billion....that’s billion with a B

much of that comes from the host city in form of guarantees for hotels, convention sites, etc that the host city has to “give” the league free

i want NO part of hosting a super bowl in Charlotte

Source?

I would think the tv deals given the game is one of the most watched events in the entire WORLD would be a much bigger pice of that 4 billion than host city revenue.

Reducing taxes isn't an ulterior motive. Its what everyone does all the time.

True, but let’s be realistic about something:

If the government says your house is worth 400k, you bought it for 350  two years ago, and you come back and appeal saying you think it’s only worth 200k, the government is not going to meet you in the middle at 300k just because you pulled 200 out of your arse. If you’re lucky and they think you have a bit of a point, they’ll come down to 375. If you hire a lawyer or an expert and make a big deal of it, maybe you get them to 350, but they are gonna throw your garbage 200 number out the window.

The difference between you and I and Tepper is because of his status and leverage, the government is actually meeting him halfway on a number that is garbage.
