Could all the trade Cam posturing be Tepper playing hard ball vs Newton contract?

The more I think about it the more it makes sense. Trading Newton nets you absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. You trade a potentially in his prime top 10 qb who has been given 1 full year off to heal for some second day 2-3  round picks the equivalent of magic Beans to one of the "worst" second round 3rd round talent evaluaters in the league???

That doesn't make sense to me. Keeping Newton allows you at worst a bridge qb and the chance to shore up a team depleted of talent this season and not forcing a qb when the elite 2 would be gone or cost us the future to acquire. I hear all the media and "huddle elitist" chomping at the newton is gone bit. But ask yourself this does it really make sense? Is the risk worth the reward. As business savvy as tepper is I have no dout he has come to the same conclusion.

Unless we are in full tank mode no way we trade Newton for some more Hurney specials. We gonna trade him for some more Little's running around the IR? Maybe a dontae Jackson if were lucky? A Grier or two? It just doesn't make sense to anyone building a football team for the future.

I do not see it.  Here is why:  If they are hardballing Cam to keep him from asking for an extension----they simply say nothing and do not offer him an extension. Cam has made no threats of a holdout--no demands.  I have never heard him talk about money. This strategy creates animosity and angers the fan base.

The Panthers do a great job of keeping everything close to their chest. But I will tell you this, Ian Rapoport has Bus Cook's (Cam Newton's agents) cell phone. I know this from previous clients of his. So when you hear Ian Rapoport say "My understanding", "sources involved in the situation", "He would welcome a trade to the Chicago Bears from my understanding", that's Bus Cook/Team Cam leaking information to the media. It damn sure isn't Tepper or Hurney. What incentive do they have to leak? Because they want to talk contract extension.

Tepper wants to know that he's healthy before engaging in those talks. If the talks go nowhere, then trade, release or play out his deal become a possibility.

This isn't really groundbreaking stuff. Agents and teams use the media for posturing all the time. Listen to Lombardi's podcast. He talks about this a lot and even said the same thing I did, about Team Cam being the source of the leaks.

If they were unwilling to discuss an extension, how would that point to wanting to keep him?

Could be a preemptive strike. Would be foolish to just assume your NOT gonna extend him no matter what he looks like before March. A savvy owner would be prepared for just such a scenario.

Sigh... the guy your making fun of is one of the more recent prevailing voices in the Panthers football community.

https://www.the4manrush.com/ aside from  having a burgeoning website and one of the more popular panther* related youtubes and podcast shows

But regardless of where the information comes from it's the knowledge you should consider not who said it. But coming for the huddle troll this is pointless.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
