Yes!!!!  I have been hyping this guy fro a while as a day 3 prospect.  Under-the-radar candidate because he went to two bad football programs Bowling Green and FIU.  He has a gunslinger swagger about him, but wasn't able hone the nuances of the position in those surroundings.  A perfect candidate for Joe Brady to work with.  Now, he would be a project and sit a year or two while he tightens up his acumen, but the tools are there...all he needs is teaching.

I originally was mocking him in the 6th/7th rounds, but if he's gaining some steam, he may go as high as the 5th now.

That is what I thought, but some are saying higher.  Nice to see some knowledgeable posters found this thread.  I was swatting away dumbass for a bit.

there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for a team in out position to take a QB outside the top 10. There's almost no reason for any team to ever do it.

The whole "flip a guy for a higher pick" thing is for teams that have stuff figured out.

It's a stupid, wasted pick that the team wants to make because NFL jingoists say it's "always a good idea to be developing somebody there."

 But it isn't really.

If we are an analytics team now, then why are we even considering taking mid to late round Quarterbacks? The analytics say there's no incentive to do so. Maybe its a misdirect to sell the notion we aren't considering an early round QB when in actuality we are, But color me skeptical.

Maybe because the team isn't sold on either Allen or Grier as a long term solution at backup.  We have zero capital in Allen and Will a 3rd round pick.  Hurney may be wising up to realize it's bad enough to draft a bust, but then trying to hang on to that bust in hope of saving face is doubling down on stupid.

But can he dress like Cam and pull it off

There is the red flag.

If we keep Cam for a season, this guy could be legit with the right coaching.  People are trashing him now, but any draft pick after the first round is a long shot.  However, if you have the skills, you can play this game if given the right opportunity.

You lost me at "Hurney may be wising up".

who cares about having "a long term backup."

It's not a thing.

who cares if this guy is nominally better or worse-because that's the extent of what he'd be-than will Grier.

Lol, unlikely I know.  Have you watched that YouTube footage yet?  You can tell he idolized Rogers.  Even the follow-through mannerisms on his throws are nearly identical.

I do not think we have talked to many-if any--QBs other than this one. There is something someone sees in him.  Bill B in NE likes him, and he sorta drafted Brady late.  Maybe that was luck, maybe not.

We have not re-signed Allen.  If we draft a backup QB on day 3, I call it a win.  If he becomes a starter soon, Big Win.

I'll check it out, though probably not today. Today's plans don't revolve around football :)

A team that hasn't been able to field a healthy starter for the better part of three years has probably at least given some thought to it if they're smart.

(granted, that last phrase isn't guaranteed)

Not a thing huh?  I guess Derek Anderson would have done just as bad as Allen/Grier.  It is a thing and a smart thing to have in case your starter, say Cam Newton for example, can't stay healthy for 3 years.  At worse you have a reserve QB you have confidence in if the starter is hurt. At best he develops into a starter and somewhere in the middle you have a trade and/or comp pick in FA when their deal is up.

If Hurndog keeps Grier on this team ahead of Allen his ego won over.  Grier was never going to make it in this league.

I'm not one to defend Marty, but he's not the only one with input here.

As has been mentioned, Matt Rhule has been said to be a fan of Grier.

For the better part of three years, eh?

I count one year and a half .. half of 2018 - 2019 ... 2017 Cam was in MVP form

@TheRed @Mr. Scot

Knock it off.

I don't care who starts it. Both of you stop this pissing contest.

I see either of you derail a thread with it again you both get a week off.

I see one of you attack the other, you get 2 days off, but if you two start this poo up again and go back and forth you get a week off. Then after that if I see it you get two weeks off and we'll go on from there.

You both are acting like petulant children. I don't care whose fault it is. You're both acting like idiots and it's polluting threads and it's going to stop.

This isn't a discussion so don't PM me. I don't want to hear your side of it. I just want it to stop and it's going to stop one way or the other. Got it?
