Austin Ekeler's new contract and CMC

There's been a lot talked about how we should give CMC WR1 money since he's such a unique dual threat, that running back salaries should not be applicable to him.

Austin Ekeler had 993 receiving yards last year, on a lot less targets, and playing much less snaps than CMC.  By any metric, he was a more productive and more efficient wide receiver out of the RB position

As for comparing them for strictly running, Ekeler had to split carries with Gordon, but had an identical PFF rating as a rusher per attempt.

So what is the rationale for why CMC should be paid so much more than Ekeler's new modest contract?

Because CMC is a workhorse and can do it by himself. Ekeler splits carries so they have to pay two high end RBs.

False, in the games Gordon didn't play, Ekeler showed he could carry the load by himself and had his best games.

But they have the luxury of having two high end backs unlike us, and didn't have Norv as OC who was more flexible.

Did you seriously just compare an all world talent to Austin Ekeler?  Ekeler is a nice piece, but he ain't CMC.  Gordon is a nice piece, again, not CMC.

It's not all about the numbers the "RB" puts up.  It's the stress he puts on the opposing defense.  It's the distraction he provides.

Yes, you account for what Austin Ekeler does, just as you do with any other offense.  With CMC, you have to account for HIM.  What he MIGHT do.

If you can't see it, I won't convince you.  But CMC is a HoF player if his career continues its current and projected course.  You don't piss those away.

If Ekeler were white and CMC were black, this entire discussion would be reversed

If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
