Trending the Defenses

So here are the total yards allowed and turnovers caused for the Panthers and the Saints....

A couple things I notice...

Saints

Definite trend on a weakening defense. Weeks 4 through 8 show this. The Panthers should be able to get plenty of yards this Sunday. Can they convert that to points?

Turnovers pretty consistent around 3. We should probably plan on 2-4 turnovers this game by the panthers. 2 if the running game is working, 4-5 if Delhomme is passing.

An improvement trend.

Turnovers are pretty unreliable and random. A sign of a defense that is not quite there yet. We could get 0, we could get 7. All depends on which team shows up.

IF old Jake returns we have a chance. If 3-5 int a game Jake is playing 0 chance.

I'm hoping something supernatural happened when Jake shook Kurt Warners hand Sunday, Transfer his turnover disease to Warner.

Thats what they get for naming their franchise after the color of excrement.

I expect nothing less then a heavy run game. It keeps there Offense off the field and keeps Jake from throwing INTs. It sucks that we want have a FB on the roster though.

the second graph is mislabeled on the x and y axis. How come there is no info for week 1 and the bye week is not listed?

Brees has remarkable timing. He is very smart too. In 3 steps, he is ready to make a throw and has already made a good read. Very hard to sack a QB when he is already thrown the ball before you can even get near him. Assume right now that you won't get any sacks or hurries on Brees.

The key would be too stop the run and make the Saints pass only. As it is now, the Saints are very balanced, which makes them much better. The other key is to score plenty and often. Keep the much improved Saints defense on the field, which will limit Drew Brees. You cannot let the Saints get a 2 TD lead, because then it will be over. Finally, you have to not turn the ball over, especially near your own goal line.

The Saints remind me of a team that peaks too early, much like the Colts of the past many years. The Panthers may lose, but if the Panthers keep up the improvement, they won't lose the repeat game.

Brees can dissect a defense in about 2 seconds and know where he wants to go with the football. He might be the best in the NFL at doing this. The D-Line has to get their hands up and bat some balls down. This could also throw off the timing of the screens they like to set up as well. I know Fox likes to start Brayton because of his run stopping capabilities, but I think Charles Johnson needs to see more PT and rely more heavily on our DTs to tie up blockers and stop the run.

we are #1 against the pass, #7 yds allowed, #24 against the run.

4-2-5 defense will handle it...especially if we have martin and harris at safety and keep bringing wesley in like we did last week as a QB spy/extra LB.

beason and davis are plenty at LB.

i am loving the Dline right now. we have good depth and a lot of talent. we have plenty of pressure from these guys. i think it can bring the pressure we need.

defensive scheme is probably going to be pretty similar to the way it was last week only better because now they have a bit more confidence than they did before. they have seen how well meeks defense can work and this week will be the best test for it.

if the defense can hold down the saints offense i see two things happening:

1) the ability to handle any offense in the league from here on out.

2) saints tumble as we give the rest of the league the formula for stopping them.

it's a monumental challenge but far from insurmountable. we pull this off and we see a new team the rest of the season.

saints are going to fall sometime. why not this week? panthers have more to prove than the saints do and they are in the best shape to prove it than they have been since december of last year.

no guarantee but i do like our chances.
