I really hope we trade back.

Here is what we can be about 80% sure of:

The Chargers did not go after a free agent QB--and seem uninterested.  They are going QB.  They may have to trade down to get one--unless Love is on their minds.

It will be interesting.  If Miami trades down with Washington as rumored for Tua,  then LAC almost half to try to trade with Detroit to keep some team from leaping over them for Herbert.  It is likely that the Chargers go after Herbert.  So let's say The Chargers try to trade with Detroit, but they want Young.  The Giants, knowing that their pick is likely to be there at #6, trade back to #6 and the Chargers take Herbert in the #4 spot.

So the draft goes like this, 1-5:

  • Burrow (CIN)
  • Tua (MIA) Trade with Redskins for both Dolphins first rounders.
  • Herbert (LAC) Detroit GM has been open to trades--Miami knows it, which is why they had to trade with Washington.  LAC had to trade up with Detroit to keep someone else from getting Herbert.
  • Young (NYG) There is no way Gettlemen lets Young slip by him.  He said in an interview with NYG reporters, "You do not want to regret passing on that great player by trading back...."
  • Okudah (WASH) Skins get a second first rounder from Fins and get a shut down CB to replace Norman.
  • Brown (DET) The Lions have 3 primary needs--and i would not put another trade back from them here--but they are Edge (4-3 end), CB, and IDL.  Brown makes sense.

Who is left?

My board

1. Simmons.

And then, the Raiders come up to get Simmons.  I know they picked up a couple LB's in FA, but LB was a major weakness and this guy is a game changer.

We get 12 and 19 and give them our 1st and 2nd.

Kinlaw at 12

Thomas at 19

I'd take this over Simmons, even though I think Kinlaw might be boom or bust.

Our trenches are trash and not much else matters until we address that.

Agreed, since we are in rebuild, a toy WR or CB would be no good to us at present.  Build from inside out.

Kinlaw showed well at Senior Bowl with his peers who are NFL caliber.

First, I gotta say Aaron Donald is still the top dog in the NFL. Secondly, I'm at the stage where I think we should only go DL over OT in this draft if we trade down. Personally I think BPA is something like Wills/Wirfs > Okudah > Simmons > Brown.

You wouldn't hear a bit of complaint from me if we took an OT at #7.

I'll say this too, I think there will be better DT options available at #38 than there will be OT options.

Wills is the only OT I would take at #7 even though that's high for drafting a RT.  If we trade down I'd be open to others.  Wills is plug and play, while the others, I'm not so sure.  Wirfs would be an All-Pro RG, but has questionable technique for an OT.  Neither of the LTs (Becton or Thomas) will be ready to start opening day.

You are probably correct.

I heard that the reason he was playing RT was a left handed QB and that he could transition to the left side fairly easily.  Guess we will see.

I honestly don't care about day one starters. We're taking a bath next season no matter what. I'm worried about not beating our to be determined next franchise QB into the ground before his 30th birthday.

I would be elated.

Yeah, the problem we have is that outside of RB there literally isn't a position on the roster where we can't justify a very high pick. I mean, think about that. Yikes.

Oh, but let's sign Bridgewater because a couple good draft picks and we are very competitive.

Take Wills, plug him at RT.  Move Moton (who has been good, but not elite) where he can be elite--LG.

Extend Moton, giving him a nice contract for 4 more seasons.   The OL just got very good.   Moton, in my opinion, would be a much better LG than RT.

^^^^This, dude is a mauler, not a "dancing bear".  Moton is a serviceable tackle, but why not play him to his strength?

Wills and Moton could be a the core of the new OL.  If Little can amount to a starting guard, we have 3/5ths then.  It's possible we find a center this draft too.  All that would be missing at that point is the LT. Then again who's to say we don't extend Okung if he plays well?
