Panthers sign Tahir Whitehead

Not surprised, this is another guy with a Rhule connection.  He played at Temple till 2011, Rhule wasn't the head coach, but he was an offensive assistant coach at the time he played and just so happened to be the "recruiting coordinator" the year Whitehead was recruited to Temple meaning Rhule probably has an extensive understanding of what his skillset is and helped recruit him.  Almost everyone he's brought in have been guys he has connections to.  While I think it can be bad if he's just helping out "his boys", I think it could be more so that he wants HIS culture and bringing in guys that know and trust him will help get the panther holdovers to "fall in line".

We signed Whitehead for about a year now on this lock down. But, he’s just a dang JAG. Nothing more

Any chance we have a Lamar Lathon 2.0 on our hands here? I remember Lathon in Carolina being a perfect fit in our scheme and had his best days with us. He signed with us at 28 years old, but I don't remember how good he was prior to Carolina.

Whitehead looks like a JAG, but his familiarity with Snow could be huge. He fills the stats sheet and his physique is exactly what Rhule and Snow want..... strong and physical. He could bring a vocal leadership as well and if we luck out with Simmons in the draft, a trio of Shaq-Simmons-Whitehead would be a solid linebacking unit.

Sucks in coverage, but stout against the run.

Doesn’t seem like he’ll be taking Luke’s number...

“I know Luke wore it and everything. Obviously, he’s a good guy all around. It would be different for everybody to see me in it. . . . I’m not really too hung up on the number,” Whitehead said, via Joseph Person of TheAthletic.com.”

59 should be retired

Then the crowd should yell LUUUUUKE every time he makes a tackle.

Lathon was good when he had a stud on the other side. He was a JAG when he was spose to be the guy

    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
    • Is it possible for someone to regress in maturity as they age or has Steve really just been a jerk his entire life?
