Chargers using Cowherd to say "no" to Newton?

this dolt is doing the exact same thing today but with the Patriots, saying they'd be making a huge mistake getting him and they shouldn't want him. he won't be happy until Cam is strung up from a tree by the sound of it.

ESPN dropped radio host Colin Cowherd on Friday, a day after he made comments insulting the intelligence of Dominicans. “Like I’ve never bought into that, ‘Baseball’s just too complex.’ Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic,” Cowherd said on his program Thursday. Major League Baseball demanded an apology and called the remarks “inappropriate, offensive and completely inconsistent with the values of our game.” Cowherd doubled down during Friday’s show, offering statistics on the Dominican Republic’s world rankings in education. In a statement on Friday, ESPN said, “Colin Cowherd’s comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees. Colin will no longer appear on ESPN.”

e: cowherd also spent 6 years freaking out about john wall because he danced before basketball games. i mean, not really, that would be ridiculous. he freaked out about john wall because he is a black man who didn’t conform to his expectations

If any pro team makes their decisions about who to sign based on Cowherd, that team cannot be taken seriously

Sure, but that's not what this is about. This is about Cowherd being used by the team to deflate the Cam to Chargers talk.

Lynn confirms they will be looking into Cam at some point if they haven't already

No, he didn't.

Lynn just gave a bunch of generic coachspeak, saying "Newton is a good quarterback" and "we're looking at everybody". Taking that as anything definitive is no different than thinking that what Matt Rhule said guaranteed the Panthers were keeping Newton.

The Chargers might pick up Newton or they might not. We'll see. The way things look right now it's most likely nothing will happen until after the draft.

But either way, taking generic statements like this as gospel is a mistake. It's why some people think Rhule verbally committed to Newton when he never really did.

I dont care to argue. Have an issue with what was written or reported? Take it up with the person who published the article that's literally what it says, front page of NFL.com

And just because they are "looking into" or at the very least having discussions about bringing Cam in does not mean hes going to sign or even go in for a visit. They are just looking into him which is what you would expect from one of the most logical landing places for Cam. That simple. Nothing to be right or wrong about here.

When you're listening to someone in the NFL talk - especially at this time of year - it's a good idea to read carefully and not substitute what you think you heard for what they actually said.

The Chargers might look into Cam (my take is that they probably will) but to think that Anthony Lynn committed himself to anything here is a mistake.

NFL coaches and GM's use extremely flexible language. If you want to get what they're really saying, it's wise to run it through that filter.

From the article...

Such a process would require verifying Newton's health, but a pairing is still possible.

It probably won't happen for a while, though, because of the need to examine Newton before talking contract terms, something that can't happen until teams are able to physically occupy their facilities and travel. For now, and for the foreseeable future, it's Taylor's team.

"Obviously, I brought [Taylor] in last year, and I knew if we needed him to start if something happened to Phil that he could go in," Lynn said. "I'm very familiar with Tyrod. I would say right now he's in the driver's seat. But no position is finalized until we get to training camp."

Training camp is still far from now. There's plenty of time for the two sides to work something out -- or decide its best if the Chargers go in their own direction and hand the keys to Taylor.
