Keep in mind year 2 julio missed like 12 games with a broken foot. But since then they have been to 2 NFC championship games...several play off appearances..and had a lot of winning seasons. Before that i dont think they ever had back to back winning seasons before 11 got there. I dont see that as a recovery.

They've had a total of three winning seasons since that trade. They've been every bit as inconsistent as us.

That's more due to poor drafting outside of the JJ trade; no one there to step in for Abraham, White, Gonzalez, Turner, etc. as they aged out. As I mentioned before, look at '09-'12...pretty brutal.

Falcons downfall imo had little to do with the Julio trade, it was there inability to find a edge rusher and how they kept constantly trying to surround the offense with talent.

They only spent high draft capital on dbs, trufant, Neal, and the 2nd rounder that couldn’t stop getting suspended, hell the db they took after we drafted donte

My point was, it wasnt a down fall after Julio was draft. They got better. But I do agree with you their failure to address the defense has limited them.

Actually 4. With one 8 - 8 season. But hey whose counting.

Julio trade had everything to do with Green Bay coming into Atlanta and waxing our ass when we had the #1 seed. When we went down early, every Falcon fan knew we weren't built to come back from that. Enter the Jet.

Having said that, we dont have the fire power to get to #2 without sacrificing everything. We will trade up, but not to number 2.

I mean it worked for them, but at the same time if it turns out like any of the Lions "HoF sure fire" WRs of the 2000s, then suddenly the Falcons are the biggest bunch of idiots the league has seen. Just because it worked, doesn't make it the rule.

That’s two separate arguments, if Tom Brady doesn’t go god mode we aren’t having this discussion, same could be said for a lot of teams. Falcons failed to consistently put the pieces in place to maximize there hof talent just like we did.

as panthers fans we def need to pump the brakes on calling that move by the falcons questionable the dude smoked us for 300 and has historically had randy moss like games each time we meet up

Exactly. Just because the Falcons (clearly) failed in many places elsewhere in the same time frame doesn't mean that exact decision was also a failure.

Put differently, which hurt the early-decade Falcons more:

A) Peria Jerry and Sean Weatherspoon with first round picks in '09-'10 (and only one starter with the remaining, full spate of picks)

B) Julio Jones with first round picks in '11-'12 and a second in '11

C) A punter easily being the best player ATL drafted with the remaining picks in '11-'12 – outside of those used to acquire Julio – including a second and 2 thirds

You can really only make the case for "B" if you play Captain Hindsight and claim the Falcons would have drafted, say, Muhammed Wilkerson and Justin Houston in '11 (very little talent past #25) and David DeCastro or Lavonte David in '12. But in reality they probably would have picked crap like they did in '09-'10 (or worse, along the lines of the horror haul the Browns took instead); most specifically, the calamitous Konz may have probably been the pick in first of '12 anyways, since we desperately needed a center and he was the "best" (lol) in the draft and expected to go in the first by most.
