Chinn vs. Simmons: A comparison of the measureables

Well Simmons probably was more linebacker than McKinney or Chinn but Chinn can still slide down— Hes big and hits hard...

I’m happy with the picks,.. much more excited than last year.

im hoping that these guys and Burns can really grow together,.. and KK returns to being a badass

Chinn LOVES to hit while Simmons... not so much.

Go watch Chinn’s 1v1’s at the senior bowl. He looked very comfortable. Didn’t win all of his reps but Chinn showed he has the skills and athleticism to be able to cover some of the better prospects

Simmons likes to hit. He doesn’t like contact

I wanted to call him just that, but in this system, he may be a better fit than Simmons would have been.  I watched some video of Simmons and he had some moments--he can cover ground--but where does he fit?  Is he soft?  I even posted back in February--I just am not that impressed with him---what am I not seeing?  Maybe my expectations were too high; maybe I was drinking the Kool Aid.

I am totally happy with the way this turned out.  Silly school girl in a manly way kind of happy.

I think Simmons compares very favorably with Roquan Smith of the Bears. Fast, smart and can cover. Not the most physical. But you're probably getting a really solid player. I definitely think he was overhyped by his combine, but, still, a good player. Esp nowadays where su packages are very common.

I think Chinn being a much more willingly physical guy will definitely help him a TON being that kind of hybrid guy. But he needs to get used to the speed go the game and improve his coverage skills, which is why I said Poor Man's. But don't get me wrong, I'm much happier with our haul.

Common denominator of our first 3 picks (and look for it in subsequent rounds):

they all stand out among the peers at their respective positions, in that THEY LOVE TO HIT PEOPLE, AND DON'T SHY AWAY FROM CONTACT.

Panthers won't be a soft team.

Brown/YGM/Chinn >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Simmons/Blacklock/(fill in the blank with a second-rate CB)

Easily and by far.

Wow... I've been around here a long time, and it takes a lot to impress tiger7_88...  he certainly isn't some rose-colored glasses homer...

But I do agree with him too...  I am very happy with our first 3 picks.

Maybe this will be like the unicorn draft we had in 2001 with Morgan/Jenkins/Smitty... one can at least dream...

And I'm still pissed off at Rhule, so its not like I'm going out of my way to prop him up.  I just honestly think this draft is knocking it out of the fugging park.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
