Carolina Hurricanes Playoffs

The Canes looked as though they've never skated together before. They are most definitely not a day-game team. Looked pretty bad today. That being said,

Game 1: Covered puck by Mrazek results in Boston goal: horribly missed call

Game 2: Bad goalie interference call results in no goal for Carolina

Game 3: Puck clearly behind line and behind goalie before whistle blew results in no goal for Carolina and at least 3 blatant penalties (2 high sticks and a trip)  right in front of officials with no call.

I guess now the defending Stanley Cup champs are 0-5 in the playoffs and Boston got beat in 7 last year, the NHL figures it's time for them again.

They always get calls. Always. I have no idea what it is with Boston based teams and shoddy officiating but apparently it is contagious in the region.

This is the one instance I wish they could actually let the public know what’s going on. Rod didn’t seem to happy about the MRI results.

Report was that he could maybe return for ECF or SCF, but won't return this series for sure. Which is actually great news considering how bad it looked. Rod is pissed about it because he's out an extended period of time, but it could've been worse and spilled over into next season, so I think this was probably best case scenario based on how it looked.

Ya, him clutching his knee instead of his ankle is what gave me pause it may be a much longer term deal. Hope you are correct!

Some insiders think that the canes leaked info that the MRI wasn't as bad as they thought. I wonder who will be the first to punch that giant Chara, right in the mouth when the game starts? Williams, Edmundson, or a mystery person???

I say Staal(ya ya I know) or Edmundson I’d if he’s active. Williams is probably the most likely but he can’t reach Chara’s face at arms length.

It is technically Staal's job, but we seen who threw punches in the Rangers series, and I expect the same. My money is on, one of the canes jumping on Charlie McAvoy. Chara is expecting some backlash, Charlie is not. Boom goes the dynamite right in his mouth. BTW, Svech and Edmundson unfit to play. So it is down to Williams and/or Staal. I just dont see Staal doing it, though he needs to, it is his job, he wears that "C".

Staal hasn’t thrown a punch in a while. Williams seems the most likely.

Staal is a gentle giant. He will never do anything physical that aligns with his size. It’s been this way for, what, 15 years now? Don’t expect that to change. Willy has the attitude (kind of) but nothing physical to back it up—small, old and relatively weak. Would be stupid for him to get involved. Edmundson is our only option but he’s out and even then he’s not an ideal candidate. We need some more physicality and size and attitude on this team. Ferland was great but injuries (then and now with VAN) have impacted his career and are why we didn’t keep him (smartly). Tom Wilson types are not easy to find and seems like Rod doesn’t value the 4th line guys who offer nothing except for physicality which are easier to find but not the best use of a spot in the lineup. Really there’s nothing we can do about this except pull it together for Svech like we did last year after Ovi knocked him out. Just beat the Bruins, keep playing hard and as a team and keep advancing and hope to get him back in several weeks if we’re still in it.

Ya his last fight I rememver was 2017, there might have been a tussle since then but he hasn’t gone full on mental. I hope we can get a giant in the draft this year we can mature(but I’m not in the know that much in the NHL, more Carolina or watching the playoffs because one of the two best sports). Dougie and Slavin are great but they are huge bodies and a young one they could tutor that would be with us a while would be premium.

That being said I expect the most physical hockey of the past two series this game, from both teams. Should be a riot.

There are plenty of good things to say about Jordan Staal, but let's get real. If it weren't for the "C" and the relative youth of the team he wouldn't be here.

He still has the instincts and twitch to win face-offs, but aside from that, the $6M salary is not worth it.

Well, only real reason he’s here still is his contract and NTC, otherwise we’d have definitely gotten rid of him in the past few years. He’s a middling 3rd line C at this point, making 2nd line C money for several more years and we can’t trade him unless he approves. Hard to get rid of him, unless we give up other assets, which doesn’t make much sense.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
