RIP Gale Sayers

Mr. Scot

Not Panthers related but one of the NFL greats despite a relatively short career. Some think that might tend to be the norm in the near future for guys like our own Luke Kuechly for example.

Saw also where Joe "Road Warrior Animal" Laurinaitis passed away. We faced his son James when he played linebacker for the Rams and the Saints. If I remember correctly, he was part of that game where Jeff Fisher's Rams played super dirty.

very impressive that Sayers got in the Hall of Fame after such a short career.  He had a lot of respect across the league.

Anyone old enough to remember the movie Brian's Song, about his relationship with Brian Piccolo?  Piccolo was his roommate (apparently the first black and white roommates in the NFL)?  Man that scene at the end where Gayle is telling his teammates in the locker room about Brian dying of cancer was right in the feels.

James Caan played Brian Piccolo.

Sayers only played about 4 full seasons and got into the HOF at 34 years old. That alone tells you how good he was. 6 TDs in a single game. I remember seeing him on TV as a kid. The closest thing to him on the field I've seen is Barry Sanders.

Sad to see him gone.
