Breese only had two big plays and that was because Marshall was out of position. Like it or not Cover 2 works when coached right. I say we give him two more years.

Brees killed us passing all game. His completion percentage was almost 70%. He made our secondary, in its entirety, look silly. We dropped from #1 to #7 in pass defense in one game.

Good/Smart QB's shred zones. He was right in that yesterday was a case in point.

I think Meeks has done a good job, and if the Panthers stay in a 4-3 defense next season, I'm not sure they could find a better DC.

If the Panthers hire Mike Nolan, Bill Cower, or some others as Head Coach, they will want to switch to a 3-4 defense, so he might not fit.

Almost any new Head Coach will want to pick his own coordinators and assistant coaches, and to retain Meeks might appear to undercut his authority.

I think the Panthers greatest need now is for an offensive change, and that means hiring a new Head Coach with an offensive background, from an innovative passing offense. If the Panthers do that, then retaining Meeks might be a huge advantage, and keep the Panthers from having to totally rebuild. If the Panthers hire a new Head Coach that wants to switch to a 3-4 defense, it might take a few years to rebuild the team.

After a difficult start the defense has gotten more familiar with Meeks system and are playing much better. So i vote we keep him.

I'd like to keep Meeks, maybe even Davidson. I really feel it's Fox that's holding everyone back with his overly conservative mentality. That bend don't break, play not to lose crap is old. Heck, even when we went to the SB, I think we either tied or set the record for the most games decided by 3 points.

In general, a new head coach has ideas about who he wants to keep on staff. Retention of prior coaches doesn't happen often, unless it's a proven coach with a longstanding record, and those are few and far between on bad teams.

Correct again sir. Unless your a Dick (it takes some cruel parents to name a kid Richard) or a Monte most likely you are tethered to the HC that brought you in.

We gave up 6 turnovers to the Saints and they scored only 30 points...

hard to complain about.

more than a TD below their season average! Meeks is great and i really see him developing a powerhouse defense. i don't want him to be head coach. just let him focus on the defense.

i was a fan of cower coming to carolina during the first 3 losses but now that the defense has come around, i don't want him meddling with meeks. id rather see shanahan come in and revamp the offense and let meeks do his thing with the D.

I do not recall 6 turnovers in this game. Can someone give me a rundown of them? I remember 2.

That said, I say, by all means, keep Meeks. The defense is playing with fire and intensity, qualities missing from the second half of last year. The players are responding well to his system and approach. If we end up with a new HC, I hope meeks is retained..

    • 140 million with over 36 million in signing bonus for 4 years. 110 million guaranteed. Resets the WR market. States the Panthers whole WR core costs less than 25 million a year while Jefferson will be getting 35 million a year. Wonders where teams will start looking to go cheap with having to pay QBs and WRs so much now. They didn't mention how much edge rushers are getting and how that adds to the trouble of building a roster.
    • Very Odd, seems someone is lying about the "love" between Seattle and canales.  I did read some about B.johnson and he said he wanted a stable good job and that 5 out 8 teams that filled this past season, will be open again in three years. I somewhat get his point, but he's lost millions the past two years waiting. Plus great job are never open cause great team don't fire their HCs. He put lots of time and sweat into the lions and wanted to enjoy the good times longer.    I do think tepper made other coaches not want to be here. That all-star staff had as you stated had connections around the league and coaches are no different when someone contracts them and goes " How was it Carolina ??'.... " Love the area, hated the work environment/owner". They did get Brian Callahan to interview and had a 2nd one lined up, but in just one interview titans hired him. I'd much rather had him or just name evero HC instead.  Nobody wanted Ron Rivera either and he interviewed everywhere. No one wants this job..... even the jags got recent SB winning Doug Peterson.... I truly think Carolina coaching rep is in the dump and they fuged up waiting for Callahan. Panic move. This is my pure guess too, Jim Caldwell is the acting/real HC and canales is the OC.
    • I go back to the hole the Panthers put themselves in and his positive track record with getting production from ‘problem’ QBs. Which, we have one.  I go to the idea people were putting forth on these younger HC prospects - that maybe you take a guy early and let him grow and give him all the help you can. Like a QB go figure. I think that is pretty much where it is right now. I think Canales could be good.
