Looked over stats - we aren't playing terrible on Offense. 3pt% needs to improve - but we are letting them sniff 60.0 FG% - thats insane.. if we want to run and gun - fine.. but you still have to be respectable on D.. jeezzuz

Borrego has done fine by me.. we exceeded expectations last year for sure.. players have developed under his staff - gotta win games we are expected to win now.. this is one of them sadly

I know I'm not a regular in game threads for the Hornets, but do people seriously think this team is...good?  Absolute BEST case scenario this year was the 8 seed.  Not a good look to be losing to the Cavs obviously, but the Hornets aren't exactly brimming with talent.

I expect them to be competitive on opening night not just let mofos glide through the lane gettin yinged on.

That is why Borrego is a fine assistant coach but he just isn't head coach material. How are you going to let the opponent go on a 21-4 run to end a quarter without calling a timeout to try and cool some momentum or make a few subs when the defense looks non existent.

James Borrego just isn't a good coach. Been saying it since he was hired. Just because he worked under Pop doesn't mean he is any good.

I've liked Borrego up to this point. If he doesnt get this team playing defense through the first quarter of the season then my perception of him will change.

That's very valid. He probably doesnt want to interrupt his concept based scheme.

    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
    • Good luck to Burns. He’s fine as a third pairing defensemen but Rod is too stubborn to do that.
