Our next Olsen?

I don't think Brady is averse to the TE position based on anything in his history. At LSU a TE was their 3rd receiver in terms of receptions and that was with Jefferson and Chase. Payton and the Saints certainly don't ignore the position either.

He was 4th in receptions behind Edwards-Helaire as well and only 1 more reception than Marshall. Chase and Jefferson were also used way more than the others. Between those two they averaged double the receptions of Moss and Marshall.

That offense passed a ton so it looked like Moss was really involved based on his total but the TE spot had only 13.8% of the total receptions. That would have been 52 combined receptions for our TE1/TE2, more than we had but not close to the production we had out of Olsen as just TE1.

Maybe if we didn’t have the WRs but Brady seems to like the WRs best and this year was no different from LSU.

We don't need a "next Olsen"

we need a new QB

We needed the "next Olsen" YEARS ago and the team chose to stick Greg without a backup plan or a compliment.  Ian Thomas was the magic pixie dust that turned out to be just a bag full of glitter.  While I complained until I was blue in the face about our TE situation, the team pressed on with ole broke foot and his merry gang of rag-tag depth chart fillers.  Yay!

A new TE should be one of the last things on our list of priorities. Way more pressing issues right now....like...quarterback.

ok.  I don't disagree that a QB is a more pressing need.

but TE is still a need.  and all our needs have to be considered this offseason.   And if we get a young QB.  TEs often are some of the weapons they often lean on early on while developing.

If we stick at 8 we are reserved on Teddy starting the next two years. Only Lance will be available at 8.

Well, that reserved pick and be used to trade up for the QB :) somehow it’s getting used on a QB. I can’t believe for a second Tepper is going to allow Teddy Two Yards to be trotted out as our starter again. Fans would revolt and he would lose money.

The only QB left at 8 will be Lance. He’s a project. He won’t get in year one for sure.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
