"Multiple Teams have reached out to the Jets about Darnold"

I don't think trading(hypothetically) the 8th pick was "giving it away." You were using the #8 pick to draft Matt Stafford. Technically, that is kind of crushing your pick. The mid-rounder would suck a little but we also have two extra compensatory picks we are supposed to get and this is a DEEP OL draft, especially inside. No reason we couldn't still take 3+ OL in the draft without #8 or one of our mid-rounders.

The blocking issue was already a problem this past year but statistically we performed better in most blocking metrics due to the scheme. It's not ideal at all but we do have the ability to temporarily cover up some of those deficiencies with our offense. poo, Cam covered up a lot of those deficiencies for years.

I don't think making the Stafford trade means we couldn't have improved on the OL. Those don't have independent things. Especially since we may not use that #8 pick on an OL anyway. If Slater or Sewell is gone, why would we reach on an OL? If a QB is there or Slater or Sewell, why wouldn't you jump on the QB outside of him just not being high on your board?

At what cost and how many years are we getting from him?  Trading for MS is a win now move and this franchise, no matter what Rhule or whoever say, is not that close

Then someone else will fall.  Do you research and make sure whoever that is fits in the scheme of what you are trying to do.

I believe there is 0% chance 4 qbs' go in the top 7 picks.  It jsut doesnt happen

Who will fall? Mac Jones?

Its a real possibility that 4 QBs go before 8.

Most analysts are even saying this, many scouts are saying this.

This is a very hungry year for a QB.  Ian Rapaport or schefter just recently said he predicts 18 QB changes around the league this offseason.

This is why Stafford just went for 2 1sts AND Goff.

This is why its being leaked that Wentz is being traded for more than a 1st.

We're going to have to trade away something reguardless for a QB, whether it be move up from 8 in the draft OR trade for someone else.

If we are an analytics franchise then trust the numbers that a guy will be there at 8.  It would be a statistical abnormally if 4 went in 7 picks.  Even so, if it happened then the value of pick 8 would absolutely sky rocket as there would be the top prospect for just about every other position.

Excuse me - I had a brain fart. Darnold was picked #3 overall. I had Matthew Stafford on my mind who was picked at #1. I stand by point, however.  Darnold is much more talented than Bridgewater. I still am hoping to draft a QB either way, though.

my 15 year old has a better arm than Teddy but that doesnt mean its enough of an upgrade to build a franchise around

There's a strong possibility that Lance wont make it to 8.

There are only 2 teams ahead of us that wil likely draft a QB. Considering Lance is the 4/5 best QB in the draft... im not concerned. Also, if somehow 4-5 QBs are drafted before we pick... thats a ridiculous amount of talent available for us at 8... I'd rather kick the can on a FA or Middle round pick for someone like Darnold.

    • Hate to say it but we can't fire DC right now. He was basically forced to work with BY as part of his conditions for being hired and hasn't really had the opportunity to get a QB of his own. That's not a good look when you're interviewing new candidates. A coach has to be given the chance to do his job with players that fit what he does and DC hasn't been given that chance. Fire him and you're putting another box on the list to keep coaches from coming here. Plus, Morgan needs to be given another year as well so he can either show he's can have a successful draft or he's a bust as well so the whole damn show can be flipped and started over with a president of football operations and build from there. No more hold overs. Empty the damn building and start with a brand new staff.
    • It's both column A and column B. Bryce ain't going to make it as an NFL starting QB. At least not here and probably not ever, the physical limitations just can't seem to be overcome consistently. And that's a shame because, well, he's a good kid and I wish it had worked out for him and us. But also, this ain't working out here as a team. We're poorly built from bottom to top. There's no consistency in coaching, there's no team identity, there's no grit, no depth and seemingly little plan or resistance to market influences that get us to buy high and sell low. We have a few guys we call star players that would, well, be starters on other teams, and a crap ton of starters that would be back-ups, bench sitters or free agents outside of this organization. No QB is going to come here and have much success. Much like Rodgers with the Jets, we just don't have fug all for a team. The QB, no matter the pedigree, can't pull us out of the mudhole we have created for ourselves as we've wallowed over the last seven years. No matter how high we draft a QB here, we'd just be planting a seed on rocky soil. It wouldn't survive. Look at Mac Jones and how he has played over three games in San Fran. He was supposed to be a total career washout, another 'Bama Bust. Guy looks like he can handle the game, because he has a well coached, professional team around him. One that has a lot of injured stars, but still fights to win. And you can look at Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, two guys who washed up on our deserted desert island and floundered mightily here. But man, put them on solid teams and they both are living up  to their original draft status. To be perfectly honest, this poo won't change until we, as an organization, change down deep. There has to be a total sea change here. We can't make the owners go away, but we can pressure for them to blow this thing completely up and hire in a handful of consultants, perhaps retired GMs and HCs with winning programs in the N-fuging-FL. Then remake it all. Management, coaching, team, trainers, scouts, even equipment folks. Sorry, I'm tired of this pile of horseshit we call a team. It has just eaten alive the careers of many young athletes and all of us fans since the change in ownership.
