That said, we got the big, physical righty we've been missing all season.

Hopefully he can eloquently persuade opposing teams against targeting our forwards.

Looks like a pretty clean hitter though or nobody wants to fight him. No videos on hockey fights.

Scratch that YouTube has one from two weeks ago.

I honestly really like the Trade. Fleury has always been terribly overrated because of his draft position imo, and outside of last years bubble he just hasn't lived up to his billing. This trade now allows us to pair a true defensive defenseman with an offensive cheating defenseman on every line.

Man Fleury really never came into his own as a Hurricane.  I thought after his "bubble" performance last year he had finally established himself, but he came back into this season performing at his standard level....a level we all know Rod wanted him to improve upon.

He may well get picked up by Seattle, but we still have to lose a player to them as well.  I sure hope this doesn't backfire.

Florida and Tampa Bay got better today IMO.  Florida definitely is playing with fire with all their additions, but that's still a tough team that we've handled well during the regular season.....I hate when we have a great record against a team and have to play them in the playoffs.

Also, Boston is better too......Hall was dogging it in Buffalo, but something tells me he'll pick it up for Boston.  Lot's riding on a good end of season/playoff run for his next contract.

and to think he could have been had on a pretty cheap contract this off season!

What a return for Detroit, he isn't worth all that IMO.

This trade has Eric Tulsky’s name written all over it because Hakanpää’s advances stats are insane.

Seems like he could be a better version of Edmunson, just wish we’d have added Drury (who I don’t see signing with us) and a 2nd to pry Rakell from the Ducks.

Though I do feel like we could have gotten Sami back off waivers and used fleury for Laine. Oh well. Hindsight.

We may have tried to claim Vats but Dallas’ claim comes before ours due to the inverse order of the standings.

    • As long as it's not the old Panther's offense of yore where half our PA plays were just: "PA -> all go routes." With our speedsters not named Steve Smith of Keary Colbert, and Kris Mangum, or whatever it was at the time. Just a joke to defend and led to Jake getting crushed far too often for a massive loss.
    • I understand that as well. I would not be in favor of a LB that early. I am pretty much opposed to taking a RB in the first round ever. So I do get it. That said, DT is just such an important position. I just don’t understand the positional value argument I’m relation to DT. Because the best ones eat two blockers. That gives so much leverage to your edge rushers and LBers.    Obviously it isn’t the most important position on the field but it plays such a huge role that gets overlooked by the casual fan. I was of the mindset from day one that I preferred to keep Star over Short. And clearly Short was a great athlete but Star made his job significantly easier. A nasty DT makes the job easier for ever single player on the line. I wanted Brown months before the draft process had started for this reason.
    • Having history with Matt Rhule definitely helps. We interviewed another former Patriots guy for our GM job too. Monti Ossenfort made it to the second round but didn't get the job. Of course, just like Stewart, Ossenfort had a job elsewhere inbetween the Patriots and us.
