Steve Smith talks some more

He doesn't want to leave. He just wants a quarterback who can pass accurately.

The quote in the original post seems more like he's saying that those guys are good receivers, but they look great because of their QB. I think what he's really stating is that there are better WR's out there that don't get enough credit because they don't have a super-human QB.

I didn't read the whole thing though. I just wouldn't extrapolate anything from his quotes if that's all there was to it.

Interestingly he actually has one more catch this year at the half way point than he did last year. 34(2009) versus 33(2008). His yards per catch and number of touchdowns are way down over last year. It seems he is still getting his catches but they are shorter passes and he isn't getting as many yards after the catch.

I've said it before but recievers like smitty and mohammand have carried Delhomme this far. They have made him look awhole lot better that he ever was and now Delhomme true colors are coming out.

Last sunday Delhomme look good, but Fox and the team was scared to take a chance with him on 3 downs. You'll never be a super bowl team without taken chances, their toos scared of him blowing up again.

Its pretty sad, actually, that someone of Smith's caliber has those low numbers for two years.

I feel bad for Smitty, he gives every thing he has every game. Everything.

I still remember watching him crawl to the sideline rather than the be carried off after that horrible injury a couple of years ago.

His body, too, has paid for those god awful Delhomme passes. He must look a Dree Brees' recievers and wonder what it is like to catch a ball in stride.

I feel bad for him too, if he had even an average QB, the man would be in the HOF. I doubt any of the others on the current roster has even a shot, or the desire. Williams, if he doesn't get hurt and has longevity, maybe. Beason maybe, possibly. Peppers, forget about it.

No one likes losing and the NFL is a business. You can take his statement to mean they might not have him here when his contract is up. This was referenced in sayin "these short, squatty legs can hold up".

People and their mighty ideals, y'all kill me when you have it in your mind you just want to pile on someone.

Get Smith a QB, he obviously wants one, where is the confusion? Stop making drama out of his comments, they are just statements. He is just stating the obvious, he has no mediocre qb at lest passing to him and his numbers and game play suffer.

Are you guys suggesting we get a real nice QB instead of keeping our best vet wide receiver...that make no sense at all.

We have an incredible WR....and a QB who now can't get him the ball. And is there any reason to wonder why he is making these comments. He is frustrated.

Yep. He doesn't care about how many yards he want. He just want to catch some balls that will give him the chance to help the team score & win.

Smitty's numbers wasn't that low last year. I'm positive he has about 1,000 yards. It low this year, but not last year.

I'm sure he will be in the HoF. Count on it!! Even with a QB like Jake, Smitty was still the best. He didn't win the Triple Crown back in '05 for nothing.

    • I expect Young to play better and the team to play better.  Week one is something I refuse to give much weight to, going back to when we had 4 preseason games.    All kinds of unpredictable outcomes happen week one. Seen it too many times to discount that. Since the 17 game schedule, I don’t pay much mind to results and how the units look until week 3. The units just need time to get the teamwork and timing together under real conditions. Not a series at 90% in preseason. That won’t do it. And it is hard to get around it.  But Frank is right when he points to the difference in how the offense looks with an NFL level arm behind center. Seattle in 2023, Vegas in 2024, were just liberating for the passing game.    This Bryce ball is no fun to watch unless he is having a day where  everything is clicking. Which I think we saw one time. Out of 29. Meh.
    • Doesn't help that Coen beat up on Evero's defense pretty good last season both times. Looks (and sounds, according to TLaw) like he has the scheme figured out. 😮
    • Yeah, it’s not complicated. is a seam route a hospital ball? No. can a seam route be a hospital ball ? Yes.   if you are throwing seam routes do you need to make sure you don’t hang your TE/WR out to dry? Yes.  Because of injury.  as a former NFL QB explained….Bryce was late with the throw (common issue with Bryce) and  threw it too far up field.  So a seam route became a hospital ball. result? An incompletion that got his WR banged up  honestly have no clue what Bryce defenders are doing at this point.   I’m out on talking about all his bad throws from Sunday.
