Not really. He hasn't been healthy since he's gotten to the league. If he can stay healthy though he is a beast. Right now I have heard Sam Franklin took all the first team reps at mini camp. He shows a lot of potential. Still wouldn't mind adding more of a ballhawk though.

About those injuries. I was trying to be kind. I would prefer we not waste time on him.

I'm like a lot of Huddlerz where it comes to S. We have Chinn, and question marks. Finding a ball hawking S would be nice. Not sure how we can get that done this year. I would hate to put money into almost any position this year. Save that Cap, and let's go to battle.

Agreed. Wouldn't mind if one came available though, but that's the only position I would add if the right one came available.

I know we still have some issues. And, we do have some money. It's like, yes, I want that guy. Or, yes, I like that guy, too bad we have to be responsible. Damm, I hate being responsible.

Anyone we add at this point is a 1-year rental who will not impact the cap beyond this year.

Yes, in theory that is true. However, if the right player, in the right cicumstances were to become available? Then maybe we make a run at him. But yeah, let's not mess up this years Cap unnecessarily. Basically, the stars would have to align perfectly for us to spend bigish type money this year.

Erving was a backup for KC, they didn’t spend a lot on him. In case you forgot, Erik Fisher was KC’s starting LT. Erving only played because Fisher got hurt,

Sure, all options should be looked at but take a chance and predict stuff.

I agree

Feel free again to tell us who we should sign if you are asking me my opinion because I have already stated mine a lot.

And feel free to tell me who we should cut to reduce the "waste".

My point was adding talent for this season is fine.

As for the arguing, you quoted me.

I hope we don’t. That’s a terrible list of players to blow $17M on this year. We aren’t contending for a title so let’s stop talking about throwing away a bunch of cap space on one year deals for depth. If Dix was great, he’d have a deal in place so unless he’s not bad and playing at a minimum contract, no thanks.

This should have been our mantra last year when Tepper preached patience with the process. If the guys we sign aren’t possibly part of the next 3+ years like an Okung or Short, then we have no business wasting money on them, surely not $17M worth. You can rollover unused cap into the next year and we’ve got DJ and Burns coming up soon.  No, just no.

The whole we have to save space and not pick who we want is belied by NO who spends every year and fits everything under the cap. And because these contracts are transparent it isn't like everyone else couldn't do the same. Truth is we can bring in who we want and still have plenty for next year. I love how everyone acts like it was their money instead of Tepper who is a billionaire.

You do know that any cap we don’t spend will roll over to next year, right? If we save that $24M, that means we have an extra $24M to spend on top of whatever the 2022 final cap value is. So, if the cap is set at say $205M, our 2022 cap would actually be $229M (extra cap can continue to rollover again). Someone who spends their entire cap in 2021 would only have $205M in 2022 cap space.

Any more 1 year rentals reduce our 2022 cap by exactly whatever they make, so they have a direct impact beyond this year.

Agreed, but what if a FS that we liked became available? Wouldn't we just cut Burris and the money would offset?

What if that FS wants more money than what Burris makes? What if he wants way more that what Burris makes?

Then don't do it. Also, I doubt a safety that gets cut is going to get a ton of money on a 1 year deal.

There are plenty of reasons a player could get cut. Money, team wants to go younger, bad attitude, bad play.

Also, if we did happen to find a FS that was cut. Why does it have to be a 1 year deal?

Got a feeling Fitterer's boy Quandre Diggs (FS) from Seattle may get released. He wants a new contract and they are already about to make Adams the highest paid safety in the league... Just a possibility.

Absolutely, if you are dumping Burris it’s likely a wash (guys on couch now aren’t demanding high salaries) but the person I was replying to was trying to say that we could add as many FAs as we want with no impact to next year. That’s not the case with rollover, wasted cap does impact our cap next year and by wasted cap I mean we sign Okung for 1 year at $10M and release a $1.5M Scott. I don’t think it gets us to be a contender and our cap space is $8.5M smaller in 2022.

Yea I definitely agree with you there. Unless a good fit at safety becomes available I don't want to make any moves. I am also pretty high on Sam Franklin, just see him more of a SS, but maybe that's why we are going to allow Chinn to play deep.

That defiantly is one, of many, possibilities. Or nothing could happen as well.

I know the staff loves Sam. I guess we shall see how much. If we don't bring in any S help, it says a lot about how they feel.

Or maybe they are willing to roll the dice, and play with what we have. Saving that money for next year.

Dang, ain't teh NFL fun?

Chinn has the size and speed to be in the box or deep, IMHO.

Not sure where the idea that he can't play Centerfield came from? He has plenty of speed to play in the back end. Plus, he will hit you. We haven't had a thumper back there is more than a few years.

But I do know Rhule would love to have a complete D. Allowing him to play Chinn wherever he is needed.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
