The Secondary

Coach Simmons has done a great job with the secondary.  I was totally impressed.

Horn:  We have a #1 CB--a lockdown for the first time maybe ever.  Still, loving his swag so far.  We have an alpha male at CB now (see Sherman, Richard--only a better athlete)

Jackson:  Playing so much better (so far) than last year.

Hartsfield:  From undrafted free agent to a solid nickel.  Good athlete and we are tapping into his athleticism at the nickel spot.  I am pulling for this guy.

Thomas-Oliver III: Perhaps the most improved player on the team from last year (if you do not count Hartsfield).  I have been very impressed.

Taylor:  I watched some Washington tape--blah.  They have him giving less cushion and planting and meeting the WR when the ball arrives.  He has been solid and is going to be a player.

Chandler:  Has been balling. Seems to understand the game.

Robinson:  A nose for the ball.  Reminds me of a Safety version of Josh Norman.  Hard headed as a rookie, in the dog house, but when the light comes on, it will shine brightly.

Chinn: May be much better at S than I thought.  Man he is all over the field.

Burris, Franklin, Bouye, Melvin-I did not see much from them, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

This group is the most improved unit on the team from last year.  Hats off to the coaches.

Considering how bad our secondary was just a year ago this is quite impressive.

I really think Taylor is going to be another steal from this draft.

They are definitely much better.  The quality of the depth is going to be tested early on.  If they get a few injuries in the group it might start to resemble last years.  But I'm hopeful going forward.  Just have to avoid injuries and gain much needed experience.

MHS you finally seen the light on Hartsfield? I told you in most of your 53 rosters to include him. The staff loves him, he started over Corn towards the late part of the season, and all he does is make plays! Hes a dog and I heard no matter what is asked, Harts will step up. They even played him some at RB last year, hes also got everything you want for numbers in a DB. Rhule even said he was the best RB hes ever scouted in college. He plays ST with same energy as well.

He was part of the reason Ive been saying for months- Safety spot is just fine, dont worry. 99% huddle didnt agree. Im mad about Krob getting hurt, cause I thought he turned the corner, still hope hes able to play this season. My guy Sam Franklin is an TD clone. Burris is better than huddle thinks, hes like Chinn in that hes always around the ball. Chandler would be fine as the #4, sucks he in a numbers deal....but maybe fit for PS. Safety is GOOOOD, maybe peeps will start trusting them like I have since Feb.

CBs have maybe the most talent in panther history, them just got to jell and build up the rep to match the talent. Horn will have to get though some rookie pains, I HOPE FANS WILL TAKE IT EASY ON HIM.......I HOPE. Djack ego is starting to match his play. Bouye is a good vet for this group and still has the skills. I like Taylor, just hes a rookie. STO is fine #5, no issues with spot duties this year.

LB and OL have had all my attention. Backup DL is now a new deal for me, Jones and Brown MUST STAY healthy or LBs will get exposed BADLY... QB is another deal, Sam is a rookie in my eyes...as a favor to him and my health.....ted talk over....

    • Redeemed ourselves with a solid middle to end the night....
    • This is spot on, with the first 5 years of a QBs contract being so pivotal, as it should, unless you have Pat Mahomes or the reincarnation of Tom Brady, stats shows once the qb gets paid, the teams Super Bowl chances shrink significantly  what we did to get Bryce was idiotic to say the least, not because of the player(not a Bryce endorsement) but because there’s a long history of proof, making big swings at qb, are usually big misses  find the identify, build around that, and go from there. Unfortunately we don’t have one, and neither the defense nor offense side of the ball are more than good at best
    • Seems like a loaded EDGE class. though I think we don't spend a premium pick there with Scourton/Princely showing production and potential.  Concepcion at 19 is intriguing and seen ARSB comps with his shiftiness, high IQ and YAC ability. He and TMac would be a nasty 1-2 combo at stretching a defense. Brenan Thompson could be that day 2 speedy/slot guy that could boost his draft stock in Mobile.  Sam Hecht could be a later selection for C depending on how we are planning to attack that position in FA and our own previous guys. Shelton from PSU is an interesting developmental tackle that if he can get locked into an NFL strength program and rock up, could be good down the road. Speaking of PSU, Dani Dennis Sutton was a guy last year I was big on and was bummed he headed back to Happy Valley. I think he can be a helluva NFL player, and if he can show improvement in his pass rush moves, I wouldn't be mad at him in a trade-back situation.
