I wasn't arguing your point. I was adding to it.

Right, the larger point being that franchise dysfunction can last multiple decades if you aren't careful.

Keep in mind, while everyone was laughing at the Browns and their QB search during those years, they kept stockpiling highly drafted and talented players. In the end, almost all of them were squandered.

I just hope this isn't the beginning of that sort of era for us.

It's likely to be exactly that, if our front office chooses to let the problem creator serve as the problem solver. I mean, rebuilds mean you gradually get better. We've steadily gotten worse since hiring Rhule. This roster, save for 7-8 players at most, is an abomination and the coaching staff is clueless beyond description.

I think the roster has clearly gotten much better from 2019 to 2021. It's a very talented group that should be capable of winning with a competent QB, a competent OL and competent coaching. Without those....it's what we are seeing.

    • It's only degen if it doesn't hit, haha.
    • Serious question. Based off what? Morgan has one of the worst drafts in franchise history followed by what appears to be one of the best. We also don't have a winning season under Dan yet.  He "fixed" our oline by buying 2 guards making us the most expensive unit in the league. Unfortunately, it didn't really produce a lot of results and 2 years later needs major help. Our defense was the worst in nfl history, followed by better, but still below average. He gave 2 years to Dalton, who was already washed up. He's made a few good moves too like Coker as an udfa, we offered him the most $, and the Jackson trade.  At the moment, I'd say his ability to build a team is unknown. He was also assistant during Fitterer's tenure. And for those saying he wasn't making any decisions, you don't get promoted to GM if you've never actually done the job. That'd be like Bill Gates PA getting promoted to CEO just because he was in the same room when he brought him coffee. Morgan was involved in those 3 years of incompetence.  I still think the best GM we ever had was Bill Pollian. From expansion to playoffs in 2 years was quite a feat before he took off for Indy. Overall though, I'd say our GM bar is quite low to hurdle to be the best.
    • Don't forget Willis. I'm going to hold out hope that we get an actual backup dammit so let me dream.
