Packman on WFNZ just now....

Normally i listen just to get a laugh at the callers, and alot of times its your right as long as you agree with the host. Couldnt even listnen when Frank Garcia used to be on there.

Anyways, Packer said he thought the Panthers should shop Steve Smith in the off season to try to get back in the first round of the draft next year. He said there's definitely teams who would jump on it and might would even give up a first rounder plus players. Also said get rid of Jarrett, and thought as good as Moose has been its time to look at other options there too.

I'd hate to see Steve go, but its also tough seeing him this down. He just looks like he is not pumped like he has been in years past, and rightfully so i guess judging by the season thus far. So my question is based on where the team stands right now, what do you guys think about shopping him while we still can get something for him?

So we should just ditch our entire recieving core? Who in the hell is our "new QB" that we are supposed to get with the 1st we get for SS going to throw the ball to? If we did that we would have a greater need at WR than QB so it would only compound the problem.

If we get rid of Smith, Moose, and Jarrett who will we throw to? K.Moore and Goodson? I think Jarrett needs to stay, IMO he would be a Keyshawn clone if our braindead Coaching staff would call slants and take passes mid-field. Oh and we need an NFL quarterback too. Like it or not, and I really dont but I think Smith is traded after this season.

If this team were the Patriots then yes, Smitty would be traded, but considering who we are, no, there is not a chance that something like that goes down.

I dont think the Patriots would trade smith if they had him..like Belichick said its certain players you dont trade that you build your team around.

    • Scourton's interviews are telling to me that it's only a matter of time before he could really put it together.  His limitation tool-wise that I see is in his bend, but at the leaner size, it looks like it wasn't a problem at Purdue.   He has a good moveset and reads leverages very well (vet level well).  Plays both the speed/quickness (great change of direction) and has a power game with good hand usage.  Moves from what I've seen in my digs: I'm seeing cross-chop, fake crossers into bull, bull rush, spin (his preferred move of choice), hand shuck.  He's not unrefined by any means.   If he can do 2 things---I'm feeling confident from seeing his interviews that we have a real dude on our hands: 1) Diversifying his moveset/how it's deployed - Over-reliant on some, but again, he has a growing palette.  And is already great with his hands so things are in-place to coach up. 2) Developing a counter moveset and starting to play the chess game with an OT - He's very good at reading leverage, knowing when to change things up during a play.  But NFL coaching should start to teach him how to really create a plan based on an opponent.  What to throw at a guy first, how to confuse with fakes/counters, etc.  How to play against these tackles as a game progresses.   Overall, he has some things that give me serious optimism: Run Defense, speed moves, power moves, he's super young and has the size/length.  When you really spell it all out, I think we should get excited.  Temper expectations from a stat sheet standpoint, but he should be able to go in and make an impact.
    • Scourton may not get double digit sacks, but he won't be a liability on every other down
