If you want a flag magnet OT that throws defenders into your QBs knees and destroys your RBs running lanes while failing to pick up stunts because he chases defenders down the line, then Penning is the OT for you.

If he were not lacking a great deal of discipline and awareness I'd take him too. Do you think Rhule can coach him up with discipline and awareness?

Quite possibly the easiest and most expected attributes to coach. In fact that’s peanuts to some of the characters coaches are tasked with keeping under wraps. Not worried about this in the slightest and honestly not sure anyone would in general, even with Rhule.

The techniques of an oline INVOLVE hiding dirty plays more than any other position in the entire sport, it’s simply a matter of learning the art than stopping it altogether.

The kid has what you can’t coach and lacks what’s easiest to coach imo.

The big thing with Penning (and scouts have hit on this) is that he needs to play with more consistent leverage and hip bend. He stands straight up quite a bit and just used his brute strength to overpower guys which won’t be as successful in the NFL.

Worst case scenario though is that he kicks inside and is a mauler guard like Norwell was for us.

The "half"squat in the clip is horrendous. Not sure why anyone would include that. It just highlight his issue with the bend.

Have you heard of the DBO sign? Problem solved

Yeah his technique is pretty poor but I’m guessing that doesn’t matter at UNI because the d-lineman he is going up against are probably sub 300 lbs. and just can’t match his strength.

You're right. That sign seemed to solve the Panthers problems in 2021, we just cant see it yet. Hopefully, they make Rhule stare at it all practice long and fire the idiot who created that sign.

Nothing saids champion mindset or winning culture like a sign to negatively reinforce a pattern of self-deprication.

    • Yeah, Walker from Wes and Walker radio show said something about this trade went through but Mark Williams couldn't pass a physical. I just shook my head. lol
    • UNC's football relevance has always basically been, "Hey, remember how great our basketball program is?" To extent that has worked but they have never been able to capitalize on that towards being a legit ACC power. The closest was Mack Brown 1.0 and that was stopped by prime Bowden FSU. TBH, they should have utilized all these resources they just poured into Belichick into, IDK, a legit college football coach? This is one of the more insane uses of that kind of money I have seen in CFB, which is no stranger to insane, irresponsible uses of money. The SEC and Big Ten have already shot themselves in the foot. The model they are operating on only works if TV revenues continue to go up. Well, demographics aren't working in their favor. Economics either, TBH. The NIL didn't change very much, if you notice. The haves still have and the have nots don't. The only difference between pre-NIL and NIL was the money being below the table and above it. College athletics has never at any point been about fairness. It's the most dramatically unequal system in all US atheltics. My only hope is that the collapse is swift, dramatic and most importantly SOON. I would like to see the rebuilding of this all to something closer to what it was 40-50 years ago. Regional and not such money grubbing nonsense.
    • Meh Dalton looks washed. He was good for at least 1 entertaining game a year but Im not sure he even has one of those left at this point. His game style and old age hasn't been a good combo IMO.  Not going to compare him to Hooker because Hooker is another longshot to ever be worth a #2 spot. At least he isn't Plummer I guess. Young better stay healthy or they could go backwards in wins with those 2 options this year.
