Well.. Columbus beat Red Bulls at the death tonight so things are going to get a little more difficult.

There’s honestly so many playoff scenarios for us that it’s not even worth talking about until the final match, hell, Cincinnati is collapsing and if they lose to D.C. in their final game then they will probably miss the playoffs.

Going to be a wild finish should we beat Columbus on Wednesday.

If we get an Orlando loss today, a win against Columbus and an Orlando Miami draw things will get real interesting.  If we win the last two it really looks like it sets up for us getting in. Still a path to as high as 5th with 2 more wins.

Charlotte got a little help from NYCFC today as they stormed back to beat Orlando 2-1.

Current Table

5th. Cincinnati - 46 points - 1 GR

6th. Orlando - 45 points - 2 GR

7th. Miami - 45 points - 2 GR

8th. Columbus - 45 points - 2 GR

9th. Charlotte - 41 points - 2 GR

On Wednesday, Charlotte hosts Columbus and Miami hosts Orlando. Obviously, Charlotte needs to win and hope that Orlando and Miami play to a draw or Orlando wins.

If Miami wins then they will all but lock up a spot and with Orlando and Columbus playing this coming weekend, one of those teams would more than likely wrap up another spot. Charlotte’s chances would essentially come down to beating Red Bulls and hoping Cincinnati loses to D.C.

So the simple version…

Wednesday

Charlotte needs to beat Columbus.

Orlando and Miami need to play to a draw (best case) or Orlando needs to win.

Big mistake not starting Rios. Bender choked at striker

I don't think they could.  This was a makeup game from one that had been rained out earlier in the season after they played 15 minutes. Kickoff last started with 15 minutes having already elapsed.  I think they had to put out the same lineups and were unable to use subs if they had already done so in the previous 15 minute period, as we had when Carujo got injured.  Dumb that they tried to even play that game, but it is what it is.

Ref missed a penalty on Karol late.  Would have been a bit light, but he called the game tight for the most part, so should have been a penalty.  My thought is that CFC played well enough to win, but didn't deserve to win, if that makes any sense.  Sucks to be eliminated from playoff contention, but noone expected to make the playoffs this first season.  Glad to see they showed some flashes and improvement over the course of the season.

    • Really? You don't see why a team can't draft a QB in the 1st round while then starting their former #1 overall pick over them while on the last year of their deal? It puts the team in a TERRIBLE place no matter how the season goes.  If Bryce sucks, you have to answer questions as to why he was still on the team to begin with, let alone starting over the rookie.  If he's good, then you run into the situation the Vikings were in last offseason with sticking with the rookie contract or the the guy who just performed instead of said young QB. It's one thing when teams keep a vet around as a bridge QB, it's something entirely different when that QB is still only in their mid 20's and was taken #1 overall by that team.   That just doesn't happen and not sure it ever has in NFL history before.
    • What is the alternative? - BY, will not play for less then his perceived contract (just like Cam Newton did). So you pay him top of market as befitting a 1st round, Heisman winning, playing birthing QB would get. Or you cut him. - Then we are forced to either sign a stop gap QB / previously failed QB and try to fix him or you spend a 1st round pick and draft a guy, basically resetting the team.  The reality is that we all want a top 5 QB. The problem is there are only 5 of those guys in the world and drafting, even #1 overall doesn't guarantee that.  The other problem is the NFL market. Young QB get paid. Even an average, young QB gets top of market deals. I know a lot of people here think we could sign him to an 'average QB contract' but thats not reality. Didnt happen with Cam wont happen with BY.  So we could let this season flush out and he is again a middling QB. But then we cut and restart or accept it is what it is (including compensation) and build a team around what we have.  My money is on the latter.
