I like Herro, would just prefer to use the money going to Simmons elsewhere.

Agree to disagree.. Take a swing at talent when you get a opportunity.. If he doesn't work out he still has value..

It’s really not a bad trade because we shed those 2 bad contracts. People are too triggered by Simmons and overlooking the fact we would get Herro as well. Herro is a great young player to develop with Melo and throw in the potential of Simmons who we would probably play at one of the forward spots with Washington. Tell me a starting lineup of Ball, Herro, Simmons, Washington, and Williams (when he is ready) isn’t an upgrade. Kai Jones, Thor, Oubre, Martin, and Harrell/Plumlee are depth. All we would need is a vet backup PG and we would have a competitive solid roster IMO.

Ppl don't see how good a fit Lamelo and Simmons would be together with 2 shooters like Herro and PJ on the floor together... The Defense day 1 is elite Especially with Clifford coaching..

Other then Miles being a way better outside shooter.. Simmons does everything else better then Miles and would be a incredible running partner and lob threat for Melo..

Simmons contract is worse than Haywards… Simmons hasn’t played in more than sixty games the past three years and he’ll soon be taking up 1/3 of the salary cap… not to mention he has a 15% trade kicker in his contract.

Also, posting highlights doesn’t help the cause… they are supposed to be good… they are highlights. There’s plenty of lowlights out there for him too… like passing up and open layup in a playoff game or scoring a total of 1 point in a playoff game.

The Hornets are better off teaching the players they have how to play defense rather than acquiring a defensive specialist (which they already have in Martin).

Also younger and a better player then Hayward.. We could handle his contract with only 1 truly max player on the roster..

Showing his highlight completely shows his skillset sorry it doesn't fit your criteria of good.. But Reality they are..

Getting Simmons here somewhat replaces Miles and Hayward and unlocks another level of Lamelo.. Sorry you don't see that..

Paying $40M for a player that scores 1 point in a playoff game is asinine… The Hornets already have a player with Simmons skillset who is a better player. Bringing in Simmons is on par with adding Westbrook except that Westbrook can sometimes shoot the basketball.

Not to mention, Simmons is soft and has constantly been called out his teammates.

All you talk about is 1 playoff game and 1 aspect of that.. What about his defense, rebounding and play making?? You look those up??

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/simmobe01/gamelog-playoffs/

34 Starts, 19 Wins, 15 Losses, 11 Double-Doubles, 3 Triple-Doubles

Who on our team can say they've done any of this in the playoffs??

Who can we get that has 11 Double Doubles and 3 triple doubles in playoffs??

DON'T WORRY ILL WAIT!!

All that and he barely has a winning record while playing with elite talent? He’s Westbrook… essentially a stat stuffer that can’t win.

We don’t need his defense, we need our players who already good offensively to buy in. Hopefully Clifford can accomplish that. We also don’t need his play making, our offense wasn’t the problem last year and Melo needs to be surrounded by shooters, not guys who can’t make a a five foot jump shot.

Anywho, it’s a moot point anyway as this hypothetical would never happen.

I would add to what you’ve said but you’ve already said it best in this thread.

So we ditch two terrible contracts and get Herro (one a good contract) who is a great compliment to Melo with his shooting and one bad contract back in return. Simmons also has MUCH better potential than Rozier and Hayward combined. Even if he doesn’t reach it you swap two bad for one and get a young proven SG in Herro. I still think it’s a good trade. Simmons could play SF/PF with Washington and ball handle when Melo needs a breather. It’s really not a bad trade IMO. I would love to sell a Melo Herro front court!

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
