How many touchbacks did Lloyd account for last year?

Not that the number of touchbacks is really relevant to the argument of whether kickers are real players or not, but...

Lloyd has had 50 touchbacks on 140 kickoffs as a Panther. Just slightly better than 1 of 3.

That seems pretty good, no?

It puts him in the top 5 over his career. However, I expect him to be able to put it deep more often than that considering it's the only reason he's here.

For the record...I never said kickers weren't valuable to the team...I said they weren't real football players. From an athletic standpoint, I think thats entirely true. Name a kicker who could hold a roster spot on any NFL team in any position other kicker. Athletically they can't hold a candle to "real" NFL players.

No offense, but that doesn't really hold much water. Most of the so called "real" football players would likewise have trouble holding a roster spot at any other position on any other NFL team. A few can. Most can't.

I know what you're saying, though.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but the vast majority of players in the NFL play only one position. It's not because they can't play other positions so much as it is that is the position they are best at.

This is missing the context of the argument. The context isn't whether other players can hold other positions. The argument is that kickers are athletically inferior to any other position in the NFL.

Sucks to see Lloyd getting hate now. He does his job well enough to keep it and it's not by his choice that it's limited. He should get respect for keeping himself off of a practice squad while he waits for his opportunity to advance. It's crazy that he could lead the league and people still wouldn't appreciate what he offers.

I'm not taking the Jake comments too seriously. Lloyd has been trying to quiet down the dramatic tweets for a while. Most players probably can't stand us during the week. He's being a good teammate and he's publicly coming off unbiased to his buddy Matt Moore.

    • T-Mac is a nickname, Tet is a shortening of Tetairoa. Like you said below... your name is Jonathan, I could see "Jonny" being considered a nickname, but Jon isn't a nickname, it's a shortening of Johnathan, see the difference? And if your mom named you Jonathan for it's biblical significance/meaning, because she was very religious, I think it would be different. T-Mac is Polynesian, so much in their culture has deeper meaning for them, particularly names.  So for his mom to feel this way, I highly doubt it's just because she likes the name Tetairoa and not Tet, it's much more likely than not to be because the name itself has a deeper meaning in their culture.   Particularly as T-Mac himself has often talked about how much his Polynesian heritage means to himself and his family. And no, I'm not saying all this because of how much he's my guy, if he was just "normal american" and his name was Jonathan and he didn't like fans calling him Jon, I'd probably just say tough poo.  It's that he's Polynesian and I know things like names have a much deeper meaning in their culture than they do in ours for the most part. For whatever it's worth, a quick google search.......
