Baker through 2 games

I don't think we can judge Baker yet due to him not having a full offseason with the Panthers as well as our horrid O-Line and Coaching. He hasn't thrown many interceptions and he honestly has looked better than Darnold in the pocket.  The playcalling, which he has nothing to do with, has been "inacceptable".

They wanted to move on from him for a variety of reasons, primarily of which is they did not view him as "Elite." He was slated to be their starting QB when their overtures to Watson were rejected by Watson. At this point, Mayfield demanded a trade, have felt they misrepresented the Brown's stance.

This pushed the Browns' to re-proposition Watson with an increase and a full guarantee.

If Mayfield doesn't make his public goodbye to Clevelands fans and demand a trade, it's possible he is still their QB this season. Mayfield would not play for them anymore, however.

I do not think, however, unless he played lights out in 2022, that they would have extended him. He is the wrong QB for Stefanski.

so he is a baby because they wanted to upgrade the position.  He essentially took his ball and went home.  Typical of Baker

Yeah it sucks but context is key. It’s two games, you could look at Tom Brady’s career and find 2 games that were just as bad. He’s coming off a injury, on a new team with new coaches and playbook. He’s only been here a few months, we don’t even know if he knows the entire playbook. No it’s not good but it’s not the end of the world. We have seen bigger turn arounds. We know that Baker when healthy is a above average QB. He still is young enough to get better. Let’s not ignore how bad our WRs and Offensive line has been either.

As someone who followed this very closely, I would not put the maturity concerns on Mayfield. Mayfield played an entire season with a season ending injury, and the FO office informed him during the draft that he would be their starting QB, then secretly pursued Watson.

In comparison, other teams informed their incumbent QBs that they were doing so and allowed them to seek trades (compare Mayfield's treatment by CLE to Ryans by ATL).

When your bosses lie and misrepresent and disrespect you - do you want to work for them? Especially after you've been working sick, or injured?

Everything since we've seen from CLE's front office, how they handled Watson just confirms that the maturity issues are on their side.

While I tend to agree with you, having followed Mayfield's arrival onto Cleveland, the one precise thing no Mayfield detractor ever wants to address is "context." They view it as "more excuses."

I didn't even know who Mayfield really was when he was drafted by CLE in 2018, but the coverage of him in Ohio was like this from the start and continues as the mode.

Context and Mayfield tell his whole story, in Cleveland and now here. Unless he starts winning here, or putting up crazy numbers, it will continue.

I've personally just been trying to figure out what Mayfield is (or could be) in the league. My fear is after last season, on and off the field, and coming off injury, and now trying to overcome Rhule, that he might be ruined.

Cleveland has an epic capacity of ruining quarterbacks, so Mayfield would not be the first, or likely last, but Mayfield certainly left Cleveland better than he found it.

I’m not saying Mayfield is a top NFL qb but he is a starting caliber who has potential for being better. There isn’t no one we can acquire that will be better than him. He wasn’t on a great Browns team either .

I would agree. I think he's proved he's starting caliber, with an upside of near top 10 to low 20s. And he did that while playing in the worst pro sports franchise in the United States, through multiple regime changes and coaches.

He's not playing well yet here in Carolina, where no QB has played well under Rhule. I think he should be able to play better, but he's got a lot of heavy lifting to do here. It would be much easier if the offense played to its strengths more, used CMC in ways that were more historically successful, as opposed to running him up the gut or pass-blocking -- until Mayfield gets more comfortable and can start bringing Moore and Robbie into the game with his excellent deep ball.

Genuinely sympathetic to ur Baker Baker touchdown maker experience. Visiting Browns fan here. Anyway I really believed in this kid way back when he was drafted…lemme tell u what I’ve learned since. He’s a guy who sees himself as a gunslinger. He’s not gonna do the little things that mature QBs do to win, and you’ll start wondering if your receivers are good enough (they are). If the teams struggling I guarantee he’s part of the problem splitting the team behind the scenes and questioning the coaches. He can’t compete in a drop back passing game (batted balls & ints) and he’s no where near athletic enough to escape NFL defenders. He hasn’t used any touch on his throws for awhile now and refuses to step up and deliver the ball when he’s rattled. Which brings me to my biggest gripe w the Baker years and that’s his unsettled influence on the team in general. He’s NEVER settled and in control of the offense, this   affects the entire team’s performance and you’ll begin to question if anyone is capable of playing solid football. They are capable but calm controlled leadership is required to set the tone. Bakers just not that guy, it’s all about him and if ur paying attention his history shows all the evidence u need…his unleashed T shirts, his quote about effing up the Browns, plant the flag, grab the crotch, dogging Duke Johnson, embarrassing Hue Jackson in Cincy, the OBJ BS, the Farve photo, imitating his GM (Dorsey), all his stupid facial hair change ups and more I can’t remember now…he’ll wear you out. Guarantee Rhule will be over him by years end. Anyway good luck regardless
